Heading to DC in early May
Recs welcome.
Elaine
Wife had a week of shows in DC so I ate my way around town. I can recommend:
Breakfast/Lunch at
Yellow, a middle eastern casual spot by the team behind
Albi (more on Albi later):
BREAKFAST EGG PITA
soft scramble + kashkaval + labne + tahini chopped salad

ZA'ATAR OR SESAME KA'AK

ORANGE BLOSSOM croissant & RAS EL HANOUT morning bun

PALESTINIAN OLIVE OIL
pistachio basbousa

Brunch at
Lutece.
Comté Strata
spicy tomato sauce, fried egg

Mezcal Smoked Salmon
brioche, crème fraîche, dill

Dry Aged Cheeseburger
caramelized onion, miso dijon, vermont aged cheddar, fries

Baked Eggs
chorizo, tomato, spinach

Ricotta Toast
Strawberries, honey, olive oil

Pain Perdu
blueberies, peaches

Also had a few fun bagels /bagel sandwiches at two
Call Your Mother locations. Get there early if there's a specific flavor you're looking for as they sell out quickly.
Cocktails at
L'Annexe in Georgetown

Dinner at
Rose's Luxury which, wasn't just delicious, but is a super fun vibe as well.
ROSE'S BREAD SERVICE

THE PORK AND LYCHEE SALAD
times two

EGGPLANT
special of the day

SPRING LAMB MANFREDI
think extra long and extra thin lasagna noodles. tossed in a surprisingly light and fresh tomato & lamb ragu

SWEET PEA PASTA
calamarata (calamari ring shaped pasta) w/ peas, shallots, cream, feta & mint

STEAK AND EGGS
grilled rib eye, fried egg mayo & a "sidecar" of crispy potatoes

SOFT SHELL CRAB & FRIED GREEN TOMATO
beer batter, lettuce wrapped and tasty as hell

AN OLD SCHOOL CHOCOLATE SOUFFLE
malted vanilla ice cream
VIETNAMESE COFFEE CARAMEL COCONUT CRUMBLE MOCHI BROWN BUTTER CAKEwith buckwheat ice cream

I had a meal by my lonesome at
Kinship, which was absolutely delicious, but a but too white tablecloth-ish for me, personally. This is the sister restaurant to
Metier which I believe is downstairs in the same building. If I felt a little out of place at Kinship, I think I'd be thrown out on my ass in Metier.

And several fancy shmancy meals.
Chef's table at
Imperfecto. Not every dish was a home run, but I appreciated their shoot-for-the-stars mentality

By the same team behind Imperfecto, we had another chef's tasting at
Seven Reasons. $100 less pp than Imperfecto, the food was up to the same standard in a much more relaxed setting.

For my wive's birthday, we had family meal at
Albi located in the same space as Yellow.
