Maxies was, I think, once called Maxie's Southern and is one of the few, maybe the sole, outlets for southern-but-not-soul in Milwaukee.

Hope the college search is going well. Don't assume the first financial aid offer is their best and final offer - just like buying a car, it's worth negotiating. Especially so if your kid is a valuable property to the college.

Good info. Appreciated. We also had our eye on Crawdaddys on Greenfield. Another Cajun type spot it seemed, their $1 oysters seemed to be limited to the bar only. Shay was after raw and chargrilled oysters after some scholarship meetings and a quick chat with the track coach. I wanted her to indulge.

Was up in Milwaukee area Saturday and Sunday. Mostly hit bars after Wells Brothers Saturday. I consider Kenosha /racine/milwaukee one big city. lol

McBob’s for lunch on Sunday, all 3 of us went with versions of their legendary corned beef (Milwaukee seems to have done if the best corned beef around - thuck tender chunks vs thin sliced rubber). I went with the Reuben, marble rye, kraut, Swiss, horseradish mustard. 1000 on the side. shay rolled with the stuffed hashbrowns( yeah, stuffed with corned beef, kraut, Swiss, horseradish mustard). -similar to a Roestu one might get at Glarner Stube in New Glarus. Vangie did corned beef has and eggs.

    Place is still crushing it.

I’ll be back up north this Saturday and for 3 straight nights at the beginning of February for the Goose at the Pabst. I have 2-3 peanut butter tinged eggroll spots I’m scouting as well as a few dozen other spots . Love Milwakee and suburbs.

A very significant number of people in Kenosha work in Illinois.

I could see it. I’d live there over Chicago or Evanston in a minute.

Kids gonna run at school in Kenosha. I love the easy 2 hour drive from martucky.

Yup, many agree with you. Parkside or Concordia? And do you really live in Marseilles?

A couple Milwaukee Walker's Point notes from Saturday's visit: There's a new bakery/coffee spot, Greige Patisserie, on Florida just east of the Iron Horse Hotel. They make all pastries and cakes on site. I had one of the better chocolate croissants in recent memory. Didn't try, but the cakes available by the slice or whole on order looked outstanding. Good coffee drinks, too, and savory pastries were available. There was wine by the bottle on shelves. I should have asked, but maybe this is a Milwaukee thing - buy an off-the-shelf bottle and drink it there? Same thing at a coffee bar/art gallery (MARN) that I saw that afternoon.

Brunch at Toast Milwaukee on 2nd just north of Florida. This was different from Toast in Louisville (an ok chain) and delightful. We had eggs Benedict, croquettes, and avocado toast. Croquettes were quite good, sausage/bacon/gouda, racquetball size globes very crispy breading, just a little gummy inside. Breakfast potatoes with the Benedict were also notably good if a little peppery. Custom-squeezed OJ from a local source. Fun atmosphere, too. I was definitely the oldest person in the room.

lol. Yeah. I do live in Marseilles. Beautiful area of the state, but a food desert -

Shay will be going to Carthage

Was up in the area again Saturday. Brat Stop at 830 am for Jim beam and spotted cows. Then O & H in Racine for a Kringle. After that into Milwaukee. McBobs again for their top tier corned beef, 3rd street food haul for drinks and pho. The last stop was Zaffiros for thin crust sausage pizza. - top 2 place for me

3rd street food haul was impressive. Packed and a lot of energy for a Saturday afternoon. Large bar. And many interesting food stands. I’ll be going back
