Hello. My recent graduate is touring Europe on the cheap. So proud of that kid. Any suggestions for great cheap food in Montmartre (Paris, France that is) is very appreciated.

They are not limited to Montmartre and would be very happy to get any suggestions for great cheap suggestions in Paris though I think they will probably not travel to the suburbs.

    Merci

One of the best cheap eats we had in Paris was Raviolis Nord-Est (Chinese dumplings), there's several, one not far from Montmartre

Das Happy is great for kebabs. There is a Bouillon (part of a small chain) nearby for the Instagram-friendly crowd (classic French Bistro fare (not especially memorable, but the kids like it) very popular with the younger crowd because it's cheap - there are often lines to get in). My personal favorite cheap eats spot is Miznon, a local outpost of a casual Israeli chain. They do street food takes of French favorites (ratatouille in a pita, bouef bourgignon in a pita, chou farci in a pita - all excellent). They have a few locations but the one in the Marais is the best and the are is very trendy and walkable.

I've stopped in to L'As du Fallafel every time I've been to Paris. It's in the Marais on the Rue de Rosiers. No less an authority than Lenny Kravitz pronounced it best falafel ever.

I'd go about as far as best falafel in the Marais. Miznon is about 100 paces away and better on all counts.

When we were in the area last summer we had a decent lunch here:

    Shainez:

After lunch we grabbed some pastries from this place next door:

    La Montmartoise

and walked up to Sacré-Cœur. There may have been some complaining about walking uphill, but no complaints at all about lunch, the pastries, or the view.

I only have a report on one restaurant in Montmartre and it’s Bouillon Pigalle 22 Bd de Clichy.

Described online as a mix of “Parisians and tipsy tourists, staff in black tie, red leather booths, white paper placemats for each of the 300-strong capacity, serving brasserie dishes.”

This shows up in virtually every best cheap restaurant in Paris list.

My son described it as “awful.” He had a chicken dish where the chicken was so deep fried as to be unrecognizable and a rhubarb and strawberry compote where the rhubarb was raw and difficult to chew. At the table next to them, people who ordered the same thing were spitting it out.

He said that within 5 minutes of sitting down they were asked to order appetizer, enter and dessert and were made to feel that they should leave as soon as they finished.

I don’t like leaving negative reviews, especially second hand but I think if you have limited time in Paris you should probably avoid this place.
