We hosted a backyard barbecue for about 40 people.

We grilled Aldi burgers and hot dogs, provided drinks and asked everyone to bring a dish to pass true pot luck style. I baked up two strawberry sheet-cakes (butter cakes with fresh strawberries baked on top) to serve with whipped cream and blueberries. For drinks we provided water, soda, beer, non-alcoholic beer and some canned cocktails. Almost all the NA beer is gone - which is surprising based on previous our previous experiences. We have a lot of the canned cocktails left, but I'm not surprised, I tried one and they really weren't very good.

People brought some lovely green salads, a delicious arugula and lentil salad. There was a wonderful spicy baked bean dish, and my co-workers family brought some outstanding chicken biryani and samosas.

In the past we've done things like made hand-formed hamburgers out of really high quality meat, marinated chicken, made sangria, batched cocktails, decorated cakes like flags, etc. I'm glad we kept it simpler this year because I wasn't overwhelmed getting ready and had a really lovely time visiting with our guests.

    And? Inquiring want to know.

Still in the jar, but I will update once I finally know.

Are you able to tell what the artificial salmon eggs are made from? Surimi, vegetable matter, molecular gastronomy magic, Soylent Green?
    Hold my beer . . .
