Kesar mangoes are in stock at Patel Bros.; they're $24.99/case.

As are a few cases of Alphonsos.

This year's are very good, though not spectacular. If you want them, I'd suggest picking them up soon. In addition to the fact that only a couple of cases remain, some are beginning to rot a bit.

I'll probably stick to Kesars till the end of the season. I'll report back when I've tried those.

Milwaukeean here -- I'm thinking of driving to Chicagoland this weekend or maybe next week in search of the really good mangoes for myself and a few of my mango-crazy friends. Before I get in the car, have there been any sightings this season? A google search a few weeks ago told me this may have been a bad year for Alphonsos in particular, with the crop about half the size it should be. But I'd love to hear whether they (or one of the other good varieties) are on shelves, thanks

Saw boxes of Kesars at Patel Brothers Niles last week, so I'm guessing Patel Devon should have them, too. At $45/box, I passed, so cannot speak to quality.

Patel Brothers Niles had boxes of qty. 12 Kesar mangoes for $28.99 yesterday, a Mother's Day special price. One or two starting to get nice and soft, the rest juuuust yielding to pressure. Boxes are taped shut, but they open them for you to check them at the checkout.

Slightly acid, intense flavor compared to those little yellow Ataulfo/Manilas, kind of lemony actually. The aftertaste stays with you for a long time, which is nice.
