Does anyone know of a source (preferably in the city -- closer to Lincoln Square the better) for gelatin sheets? Thanks in advance for the help.

BR - You can get gelatin sheets from Chicago Game, but you have to buy a large box (400).

Thanks . . . I know of Chicago Game . . . my former source for foie gras. You don't know how long they keep for, do you?

If the sheets are kept dry they should last indefinitely.

To date, I have only used powder, but I understand that the sheets are purer and do not import any "off" flavors, whereas the powder does. So I figured it's time to give it a try.

Thank you . . . I also understand Fox & Obel might have them too in less than commercial volumes. That might be my first stop.

    Hi,

I saw gelatin sheets at 88 Marketplace west of Chinatown recently. It was a few dollars for the package, though I did not note how many sheets.

I have never used sheets, though two sheets are the equivalent of a teaspoon of powdered gelatin. I did think about buying them, though I have about 24 ounces at home and don't really need more. I talked myself out of it.

    Regards,

For this, exactly. And this, coming from a person who loves grocery shopping and makes several grocery trips per week.

This thread was started in 2007 and a lot of things have changed since then.

    HI,

Stuck in the sand here, but I do value learning of resources and where to find them. I also think Amazon is a one-note answer, which could effectively make shopping and cooking a dull place.

Just this year, there was a discussion on gelatin sheets and all, that you participated in. Gosh, what is old is new again!

    I couldn't agree more.

Yep. But I found that price and selection were actually really good at Amazon and the convenience cannot be beat. That cannot be said across the board. A lot of other products are a bad deal there.
