I spotted Honeycrisps for 79¢ a pound at Jerry's Fruit on Milwaukee in Niles this morning.
I noticed that they were $1.99/lb at HMart.

Hi- Are the ones at Jerry's any good though? For that price, there is no way they can be #1's.

    Hi

I saw those same apples at Jerry's. They were huge. I liked the price, though they were more than a single serving. It is definitely an apple to share rather than eat by yourself.

    I'm sorry to say that I didn't buy/try them.
I will add that I noticed HCs yesterday evening at my local Butera (Harwood Heights) for 99 cents/lb. On account of this thread, I looked at them a little more closely that I might otherwise. They were large and most had minor blemishes.

Interesting. I've noticed Honey crisp still tends to be pricier than other varieties, at least at sales prices. But they also seem to have a lot of bruises.

I bought a couple Cosmic Crisps the other day, similar but maybe a little more brown sugar flavor? Still took some searching to find some without bruises.

That's a whole lot of words to just say that honeycrisps were developed in Minnesota and grow best in similar climates so if you want consistently great ones, stick with ones grown in the upper midwest rather than Washington and upstate New York (though I suspect the NY ones don't make it to Chicago).

The bigger mystery is where have mutsu/crispin apples gone?
