Autre Monde had them on the menu this weekend. They were delicious, as was the rest of the meal and drinks. Unfortunately, our table was completely forgotten about by the house and our relatively small dinner took more than 3 hours with very long spacing between each and every plate - the ramps were actually completely forgotten about it and were served to us after we already paid our bill....

I spotted some nice looking specimens at Fresh Farms Niles yesterday ; $2.99 for a decent sized bunch. Although they're packaged with cellophane on a stryo 'pan' with the greens folded over, so they (greens) were almost unusable.

Also checked out the new Whole Foods on Broadway. $2.99 for two bunches. On these the bulbs were little guys, but the greens were beautiful.

Whole Foods also has morels for $49.99/lb

How did they look? Whole foods usually gets a ton, but they said they have not seen any come in.

I like to pickle some, blanch and freeze some etc for use through the rest of the year.

I wasn't able to make it to Green City Market on Wednesday, but I stopped by Local Foods later and they had them. A friend I was shopping with wanted a small bunch and the produce guy said he'd make any size bunch he wanted. They also had Klug asparagus. I'd call first, they may not get another delivery until tomorrow when Klug is back at the market.

Two years ago I actually bought ten ramp starts off eBay. They popped last week and I'm going to harvest half the leaves tonight for din!

Tasted a tiny bit of a leaf and it is terrifically strong and fresh, much better than any I've ever bought. Yummmm!

I picked up some of those yesterday. They seemed well cared for and were in great shape when I got around to making a bunch of ramp butter this morning.

We were really hoping to see some at the Logan Square Farmers Market yesterday. I asked at a few vendors and looked hard, but didn't see any.

A great turnout for the first outdoor market of the year, and on Mothers Day. Perfect for us since we hosted for dinner.

Armstrong had them for about a second. I did my first market pass 10 minutes after open and saw ramps on their chalkboard. By the time I circled back, they were gone.

There were a bunch of ramps at Green City Market this morning. It's not like Logan Square where one farmer had a couple of bunches. Both vendors that had them had quite a few.

I was able to grab 5lbs of the last of the season ramps from Local Foods on June 5 or 6 after calling and visiting 4 different places. The leaves were not in the best shape but the bulbs were perfect. I had a trip on June 8 so I spent the evening of June 7 cleaning and breaking down the leaves and bulbs. My flight was at 7:30am and I didn't get to bed till 1:30am after packing the bulbs in mason jars with wet paper towels and pureeing the leaves with lemon juice and olive oil to hold them over till I got back.

Once I got back from my trip I pickled the bulbs and made ramp pesto and ramp butter out of the pureed leaves. It was an exhausting, desprate last attempt at finding ramps but I'm glad I did. It was totally worth it because the pickled ramps came out amazing this year.

I noticed that Nichols is/was offering them for $5/bunch via their website. No idea how much a bunch actually weighs.

I was able to get a hook-up from a chef friend and landed three pounds, which I plan on using in three separate projects. The first, completed just moments ago, was pickling . . .

Man, you haven't lived until you've thoroughly cleaned three pounds of ramps! :P

    Pickling Mise En Place
Crammed as many stems as I could into a wide-mouth quart jar. Everything on plate -- yellow mustard seed, fennel seed, celery seed, red chile flakes, pickling salt, granulated sugar, black peppercorns and coriander -- got simmered in the vinegar and water until the sugar and salt had dissolved. After that, poured the hot solution into the jar until the ramps were covered, let it all cool and sealed it up.

These should be ready in a couple of days and gone shortly thereafter. :D

I don't know if they are going to have any Ramps, but the Wilmette farmer's market opened for the season last Saturday. One of the other French markets I think in the Western suburbs opened up last week too. The Evanston farmer's market is opening up on 5/1. Last year I got some from Stover's at Evanston, but I can't remember if they come to the Wilmette market too. I think I got the last bunch they had. Hope this helps, Nancy

I just looked up the website for the people that run the French Markets in the Chicago area, and this Saturday 4/24, Geneva, Wheaton, Wilmette, and the market at 3252 N. Broadway are going to be open. They did not list what farmer's are going to be at those markets though.

I've never had ramps before, but this is as good of an excuse as any to pop into Carnivore and drop a hundred bucks on stuff that's worth a hundred bucks. Love that joint.

It's been a couple years since I've gotten the timing right, but Assi Plaza in Niles has had them labeled as Wild Garlic. You might find them at other Asian markets too.

Bit of a hike from the city but Acorn Acres farm store in Chesterton, IN had some ramps (tops only—no roots) last week. When I called on Monday, they said they weren’t sure what they’d have in this week, so definitely call ahead if that’s the only reason to go. https://www.acornacresfarm.com/news
