    LTH,

I like habanero, I like cheese, a combination of the two seems a natural. Unfortunately every version of this seemingly simple combo I've encountered has been, in a word, terrible. Either the habanero heat was muted to the point of why bother label it habanero, the cheese was cheese product or a mismanaged combination of the two. Cheese wiz with 6,000 Scoville unit 'habanero' anyone?

I'd just about given up hope when my neighbor Dan brought me a block of habanero Muenster from Union Star Cheese in Freemont Wisconsin.

Not only was Union Star's habanero Muenster real cheese, but it kicked a** in the habanero department.

Union Star produces it's own cheese, I've been to their retail shop in Zittau, even have one of Union Star's Grateful CurdHead hats. :) I asked Dan, who is often in the area, to pick me up a few pounds of Habanero Muenster, along with Swiss, White Cheddar Cheese Curds and Union Star's excellent 5-year cheddar.

If you don't have a friendly neighbor to pick up Habanero Muenster, Union Star offers mail order.

I used to stop at Union Star all the time driving up to our summer place in Northern Wisconsin - the road from Oshkosh -> Stevens Point went right past it. Unfortunately, the road was re-routed a few years ago, so getting there means making a more conscious effort. But it's a great place - picture a large room full of cheesemaking equipment, with a relatively small area in front defined by a few banquet-style long tables and a couple of coolers - all loaded with cheeses and sausages, many available for tasting, most made right there in the room. Bringing back yummy memories.

Love Union Star! We're actually heading there tomorrow since we'll be up that way for a long weekend. Habanero is at the top of the list of what usually ends up being up about $150 of some of Wisconsin's best cheese!

It is certainly up there, quite impressive when a search is made to find a suitable thread to add to and appreciated.

Does Union Star ship their cheeses? I know that used to be able to get the cheeses shipped but I do not see a store on their website.

We checked into that also, but they stopped shipping sometime during Covid and haven't brought it back. We stocked up on our favorites last weekend and hope they last until our next trip sometime over the summer.

Still as creamy & delicious as always!

The same outfit owns Willow Creek Cheese, a fairly new factory straight west of Oshkosh on WI 21. That's a little closer, and considerably easier to get to, than Union Star.

Not sure if this is appropriate to post or if it's even in the right category. Heartbreaking & shocking news out of Wisconsin regarding Union Star:
