According to this months Bon Appetit this is the ingredient of the year. I love the stuff don't get me wrong, but am not looking forward to Sriracha ice cream. I would however love to try some Sriracha flavored potato chips. Am I part of the problem? :P

I like Sriracha, too, but am a little surprised that Bon Appetit feels it's the "ingredient of the year." It's been so widespread for so long, and I can't say I really saw a spike in usage this year.

Using it as a dip for chips sounds like it work just fine.

I agree, though it was this year that I got hooked on sriracha mayo for homemade french fries.

Just waiting for the guy at Chili's who told us about the "chi-pottle" sauce on the burger to ask if I want the surry-rat-cha mayo on the chicken sandwich.

Also consider: one medium bottle of Rooster Sriracha is probably sufficient for your average McD's to make a year's supply of sriracha mayo.

How do you pronounce it? I call it Sir RA cha but that may be wrong. I've got a bottle in my cupboard but have not tried it. Will add it to mayo for a dipping sauce maybe.

Did you see the other flavors in this contest? One of them is Chicken and Waffles. (I like chicken & waffles, but I would never have thought of turning that combo into a potato chip. I'm waiting for Jay's Tips & Links myself.)

I tried these yesterday. They had a big grab size of them at our local grocery store here in bloomimgton-normal. I don't really taste sriracha, it's almost like a spicy cheddar sour cream chip, with a strange fruity aftertaste. I hope the other flavors are better. The thought is great, but I think that lays really fell through in the execution.

I've never thought of that. Sriracha + mayo is a pretty common combo for sandwiches and French fries. Never thought of adding sour cream to the mix. I think that would work great. Or even sriracha mixed into a sour cream & onion dip. Yum....

Sriracha and mayo is also a common shortcut for spicy tuna (in and out of the roll).

I bought a bag of the Chicken and Waffles at Jewel -- I wish I'd found a big grab size, I bought the $3 bag and it's not that wonderful. Malty, sweet maple flavoring... I'd like to see more hot sauce, more savory. There's somewhat of a coating (of flavorings) that makes it a thicker chip, but not a crunchier chip.

The bag indicates a "Chicken and Waffles Flavoring" as an ingredient, including natural chicken flavoring, no mention of maple (probably lumped into natural and artificial flavoring).

Frankly, I think this might be best mixed in a bowl with the Sriracha ones.

I missed this question first time around. Yeah, that's how I say it. That's not exactly the Thai way, but, basically, that first "r" is not pronounced. If you really want to know the Thai way, there's two audio examples here. It's kind of like "see-rah-cha" with clear breaks between the syllables, and the "ch" is a bit different. Of course, it would be disconcerting to drop a proper Thai pronunciation in the middle of an English sentence. I say it like "suh-RAH-chuh," with the accent on the second syllable. Other sources say that the accent in English should be on the first syllable, so "SIR-otch-uh." It seems to me most people accent the second syllable, in my experience, but it wouldn't be the first time I've misplaced accents in a word.

BTW, I did try the Lays Chicken and Waffles as well as the Sriracha ones. Sriracha tasted like Flaming Hots crossed with Sour Cream & Onion, with a bit of sugar to boot. C&W didn't taste much like chicken, just kind of sweet and vaguely maple-y. Both kinda meh for me.

I see it at Woodmans(N.Aurora), I have also gotten bottles at the asian market on Broadway just south of Argyle(the one with its own parking lot - sorry I am the worst with names)

There is also a Sriraja Panich sauce relatively commonly available in Asian markets. I like them all, but they're a bit different. The Thai versions tend to be a bit sweeter and perhaps a little less "sharp" than the Huy Fong version.

Hey, Michael Symon agrees with me on the Sriracha/CW combo.

Also, there's allegedly a third flavor "Cheesy Garlic Bread" but I have yet to see any in a store (Mariano's Arlington Heights had none of the final three last night).

Walgreens should have it. My local one (on 47th & Pulaski) had it there last night, but I didn't feel like trying it. Walgreens (but not that one) is also where I bought the Sriracha and Chicken and Waffles flavors.
