Aw. I just stocked up last summer when we drove out east with 8 bottles of the stuff. Not to sell them on eBay or anything, but just to have a small stockpile for myself and to give out as gifts (as I have a couple of them.)

It is pretty good, I have to say, and it tastes like a celery seed-forward Louisiana style sauce. Basically, it tastes how I expected it to taste.

Serious Eats has an interesting article on fermenting your own hot sauce:

I may plant some peppers this summer and try it.

Last winter I made the very simple fermented hot sauce from the Dec 2019 Cook's Country (an ATK magazine) using red serranos and red bell peppers. Beautiful color, really easy, straightforward hot peppery flavor with a little acidity and fermented notes. Kept super well in the fridge. Will make another batch as soon as I can find some good red peppers.

The sambal-style fermented hot sauce I posted about here and here was pretty darned simple and turned out really well.

Old Bay announced Monday that Old Bay Hot Sauce is once again hitting stores and online retailers over the next few months, but without a looming exit date. The East Coast fave is officially rolling out nationwide, which means you can expect to find the savory hot condiment at major grocery stores across the country—Acme, Giant, Harris Teeter, Jewel-Osco, Safeway, Wegmans, ShopRite, and others—between now and April. The company promises to keep this website updated as more supermarket chains receive hot sauce shipments.

Jewel on Division at Sedgwick had it on the shelf this morning for $3.99/bottle.

For fans of Frank's Hot Sauce, this PR could be welcome news . . .

    SpaghettiOs Unveils 'Spicy Original' Flavor

SpaghettiOs announces new "Spicy Original," made with Frank's RedHot. Featuring the distinct flavor of the no. 1 hot sauce in the world, SpaghettiOs Spicy Original packs a mild-medium heat level that meets growing consumer demand for spicy food.

The new flavor continues a shift in the brand's focus to cater to millennials who grew up with the brand and now make up over one-third of SpaghettiOs total annual sales. In a recent survey of adults (18-35) who ate SpaghettiOs in the past year, almost half report eating the canned pasta at least once a week. Also, more than one-third (35%) of respondents mentioned adding spice to the canned pasta to satisfy their "grown-up" palates.

"SpaghettiOs and Frank's RedHot each have an undeniable fandom," said Mieka Burns, vice president of meals & sauces, Campbell Soup Company. "Through this collaboration, we're excited to put a hot, more mature twist on a classic offering that our adult consumers grew up enjoying."

New SpaghettiOs Spicy Original is available at retailers nationwide for an SRP $1.59.

I remembered this announcement while at Tony's in Niles last night and found my way to the canned pasta, certain this new product wouldn't be in yet. But there is was: SpaghettiOs with Franks! I picked up two cans. Something made me doubletake at the second can and I realized my mistake. It was SpaghettiOs with franks. Sliced hot dogs, right back on the shelf.
