I know you will appreciate this coupon situation at Jewel. My prefered coupon for purchase points accumulated is $2 off from the bakery for a $2 minimum purchase. I had two with one expiring end of this month and another in March.

Their French bread is usually $1.99, though it is on sale for 99 cents. I bought two loaves and a donut to bring the sale over $2 with the expectation of using one coupon.

My purchase invoked both $2 coupons, so I paid nothing and received a wee bonus for my purchases. If it was a paper coupon, I would have only used one only.

I have one Jewel J4U reward that is set to expire before the end of the month, but I don't see anything in the one reward category that excites me. I just bought eggs, and so I don't need them. Usually you can get two packages of spaghetti with one reward, but that is not available right now. If I use the $2 bakery reward, does anybody know if I can get more than one bagel for free? I could get one free avocado, but what do I do with just one avocado?

If the warehouse workers do go on strike, I might quit going to Jewel while the strike is on. It sounds like Albertson's made lots of money, but they still want the workers to make concessions.

This is the case for any company in Corporate America. The objective of publicly traded companies to maximize profits for their shareholders and too minimize expenses. Whether it be Albertson's, Kroger, Walmart, Amazon, etc. they are all in the game of maximizing profits and increasing the stock price for their shareholders.

That's the issue with pure capitalism in that profits don't align with the greater good of the working class or society (winner take all). There is a reason why wages of the middle and lower class haven't risen in 30+ years (wage stagnation) when accounting for inflation. ..and this is the result of pure unbridled capitalism!

Is there any shrimp at Jewel that is on the okay list? Gulf coast shrimp is supposed to be okay, but 90% of the shrimp sold at the grocery stores is imported. I am not even sure if Jewel even carries gulf coast shrimp. Whole Foods does. You can buy it at the farmer's markets in New Orleans for $6.99 or less, and you can go into most of the grocery stores down there and get gulf coast shrimp for $6.99 a pound. I know some people go to Trader Joe's and buy their frozen shrimp, which I think might be from Argentina.

When I looked at the Monterey Bay list, they had some shrimp that they approved of, but they did not say where to get it. I have no idea where to get most of the shrimp on their approved list other than gulf coast shrimp.

The last time I bought frozen shrimp in bags at Mariano's they were gulf; and looking at the Monterey Bay list, I was surprised to see that Thai farmed white shrimp were "Good Alternative" (meaning there's better but it's not evil) -- I'm pretty sure that's all that is available at Costco, and I'd previously avoided.

This is a really good question. Much of Jewel's shrimp is farm-raised. The Aquarium lists some farm-raised shrimp (mostly raised in indoor tanks) as acceptable while other farm-raised shrimp is "Avoid". The packages list country of origin and wild or farm raised but not the farming method. Perhaps they list the species and one could work back from there.

I generally avoid farm-raised shrimp for issues of texture and flavor. Maybe some of these species and aquaculture methods are improvements over what I haven't liked.

It appears that no Gulf shrimp are on the Avoid list, so they are an easy safe bet from both green and quality standpoints. They're not easy to find at ordinary supermarkets, though. Aldi sometimes has frozen p&d Gulf shrimp. I bought two packages of Gulf frozen shrimp at Aldi's maybe six months ago. I think they were 12 ounce bags for $6.99. They were a special purchase. After I bought them, I noticed that I can get frozen gulf shrimp in 16 ounce bags at Whole Foods for I believe $9.99, and so they are not that much more expensive. I don't think I have ever seen Gulf caught shrimp at Jewel.

When I visit my sister in New Orleans, I bring a couple of pounds of frozen Gulf shrimp back with me. It is way cheaper down there. I last time I was done there in 2019, she took me to a farmer's market where I was able to purchase it for $5.95 a pound, and it was fresh caught. I am also able to get it in most of the grocery stores down there for $6.95. They are supposed to have Jazzfest down in New Orleans in October. Hopefully it won't get cancelled again, and I will be able to go to it.

This is a tangent from the topic of Jewel, but for the north suburbanites, Sunset has a sale running (through next Tuesday March 2) on Texas Gulf shell-on shrimp, $7.99/lb.

I stumbled across a LaCroix 12 pk 2.84 each coupon in my J4U.
It's "unlimited" so, I think I'm going to buy out all of the Key Lime, Limoncello, and Mango. Decent price.

Jewel still has cabbage for $.37 a pound, and I have a specialized price of $.37 a pound for sweet potatoes. The also have Sea Pak frozen salmon burgers on sale B1G1F. I love these. I saw the fish in the ad. While I was in the Kosher Jewel on Howard this afternoon, I also looked over the shrimp, and they do have a few responsible choices. They have packages of frozen Key West shrimp, and they also have some wild shrimp on sale for $10.99. It just says it is from the US, and they have bags of frozen salad shrimp from Oregon. I also got some Breyers apple caramel ice cream they had on clearance for $2.98.

That La Croix must have been a specialized price for you, I did not get that. I got a whole $.06 off on Lean Cuisine, and I bought three of them, but then I did not get the specialized price, and I discovered the Lean Cuisine that I bought was not included in the deal. I am only out $.18 though.

Ironic that the Kosher Jewel has a better selection of shrimp.

According to my receipt from the self checkout, I was entitled to seven game pieces. I showed it to the cashier. She grabbed a stack of tickets from her stash and handed it to me. I counted them when I got home. She gave me 22.

There are physical tickets. They look just like the previous ones. Some have barcodes that need to be scanned with their app just like before. There are also instant winners of items along with $$ off other items.

I was at the Jewel at Village Crossing shopping center in Niles today. I spent $45, and so that meant I could not use my $21 off a $75 purchase coupon. A lot of the things I bought were bonus ticket items though, and so I ended up with 14 tickets. I won a free loaf of french bread, a Signature Care nail clipper, and a Shutterfly tote bag. I also got a bunch of coupons. There were only two that I would ever use. I also got some tickets with codes on them. With all of the codes I entered, a screen came up with a board with nine squares. The nine squares are covered up, but three of the squares match. You then pick three of the squares at random, and they are uncovered and you find out if your three squares match. The majority of the time the three squares that match are worth $1. I did finally get three squares to match, and I won a Signature Care nail clipper. If your three squares that you pick don't match, then you get to select one of two question marks that are displayed. I ended up getting 37 tokens, and a free Shutterfly item.

The game is different this year. You can use the tokens to receive free items like last year. You can also use the tokens to enter sweepstakes, and receive J4U coupons worth $5 to $25. There is no board though this year, and the finding three squares that match is different too. I suspect that the nail clipper is going to be one of the items that people will dread winning. Like the gravy mix a few years ago. I don't know if I am going to like the game as much this year.

Free loaf of French bread, several free bottles of Refreshe water. I save the Shutterfly coupons for a friend.

I was entitled to 6 tickets and they were counted out as if they were $100 dollar bills . Won "O Organics Animal Cookies". 2 shutterfly codes,1 for a phone case, the other for an Easel Back Canvas, (If anyone wants them PM me) and three 50 cent off coupons for products I never buy. All in all I find the game extremely disappointing this year.

You have to buy lots of free ticket items to make it worth your while. I got free tickets for healthy choice, Tropicana, Hills Brothers, Dawn, and Brownberry and maybe a few other things. How do you win the big prizes this year like the million dollars since they don't have a board?

The game is 100% digital. All tickets must be scanned, including high-level instant prizes.

I am not comfortable with downloading apps on my not so smart smart phone, and you can go online and enter in the codes. It just takes a lot longer. A lot of people don't want to bother with scanning the codes and especially entering them, and they throw them out. When I was at Jewel opening up my 14 tickets, I saw a customer open hers up. She then threw out all of the ones with codes to enter, and all of the coupons she could not use. There is only one million dollar prize this year. Hopefully they are having a second chance drawing for that one in case somebody throws out their ticket.

I just looked on my J4U account to see if the nail clippers I won on the Monopoly game, got applied to my J4U account, and they did. When I looked at what other things I have on mylist though, and I discovered I am an instant winner of five free Monopoly tickets. I assume I will get them the next time I buy anything at Jewel.
