You don't have to join Facebook to use Just4U. You just have to sign in on the Just4U website after you sign up for the program, and then you can attach whatever offers you have available to your account, and then you purchase the items at Jewel, and then you enter in your phone number at checkout to get the discounts.

You will get more personalized deals after you have been with the program for a while, but like this week you can get a bag of baby carrots for $.25, and everybody that has a Just4U account can add that to your account, and get the coupon taken off at the register. Last week they had Folgers coffee on sale for $4.99 at Jewel, but you had to be a member of Just4U, and apply the deal to your account to get it for that price. Otherwise it was $8.99.

The only problem though is unless you are willing to download the J4U app. on your phone, you have to write down what the deals are so you remember to buy them. The last time I went to Jewel I got a can of Hills Brothers coffee, which I thought was the one that was $4.99, and when I checked out I got charged $8.99 for it, and at customer service I was told it was the Folgers that was on sale.

The Saturday Sampler you have to be signed up for Just4U in order to get it for free. The word of the day anybody can get for free. I have a friend that signed up for Just4U last month, but now she is having second thoughts because she is having a hard time keeping track of what she needs to buy, and I don't think she is into apps. Hope this helps, Nancy

If you open the app, you’ll see the Saturday Sampler that Artie referenced in the J4U section. You need to add each to your account by clicking on each item. Same thing applies to any other in-app pricing that you see.

I've never had one, or seen one. They have been pimping these for a few months now. My assumption is that it is their response to the spicy chicken sandwich craze. I'd guess that these are in the hot deli section where you'd find roasted chickens, and maybe self serve chicken wings?

It’s a foil wrapped sandwich in the hot bar section of the deli. You’re welcome.

    Hi,

Finally received the coveted free ice cream coupon. Yay!

Bumped into my sister and a friend at Jewel last week. I was there to pick up the 'word of the day' dip. I showed them what I had and the secret handshake code to get it free.

When I asked them later what they thought, neither one left the store with the dip. They were declined by their cashier. My feeling this cashier was uninformed.

I did self check-out. When I started, I alerted the roving Jewel employee I would need help with the 'word of the day' product. She looked surprised, though she found it by the time I was finished.

    ***

I picked up the spinach and artichoke dip. It was pointed out this dip had a bean rather than dairy base. I like the idea of the bean base, though the spinach and artichoke did not offer that much flavor. It did pair well with the one pound of carrot sticks for 25 cents.

    Regards,

I also got the $5 off a $5 purchase. I have never gotten the free ice cream, and I do buy the store brand on rare occasion. I would buy it more, but not all of the Jewel stores carry any of the low fat flavors. I think I had a coupon for $.99 ice cream last week, but I did not go to Jewel. Right now I have a personalized price on Healthy Choice, Minute Maid OJ, and Pepperidge Farm bread. I also have Ocean Spray clementines for $1.49 for a three pound bag, and a $.49 bag of spinach. I am not sure if the clementines are any good yet.

Side note: the Jewel in the West Loop--and, to a lesser extent, the one in the South Loop--has recently been dedicating a shelf to clearance freezer items. While spotty, some of the finds have been really great and/or pleasantly random.

Anybody else's Jewel doing the same? And is it good stuff?

I usually go to the Chicago Ave. Jewel in Evanston, or the Green Bay Road one in Wilmette. The Wilmette store has a few things that the Evanston store does not have. I always check the clearance section at both stores. In general the clearance section at the Evanston store is better. It used to be really good because the person stocking the clearance section could set their own price, and at that store, items were usually 75% off, but then last year the company said stores could only discount 50%.

Right before the pandemic though I got six boxes of puffs for $2.75, and a few weeks ago I got a 33 ounce bottle of herbal essence shampoo at the Wilmette store for $1.99.

    HI,

At the Highland Park Jewel, there is always an employee hovering. If they are not assisting customers, they are cleaning surfaces.

When I begin to scan my stuff, I alert the employee I have a 'Word of the Day' item. It gives them time to look for the note with the zebra code. Interestingly, the machine often wants a coupon after they gave the code. One person tore the corner off a notice to get the machine to shut up. She had tried her ID in the slot, but it did not accept.

These machines can be persistent little brats sometimes.
