    Hi,

Jewel in Highland Park's hours are now 6 am to midnight.

Your local Jewel may have returned to pre-pandemic hours, too.

    Regards,

As Cathy2 says they may have returned to their old hours, but they've also returned to their old pay structure. Any additional comp due to COVID is gone now. So much for corporate America's regard for "essential workers".

They reverted back to their old hours at least a month ago. They told me that it was because the stores had become busier. So much for closing earlier so employees would have more time to disinfect and stock shelves.

I was getting tostitos baked tortilla chips at Jewel, and I have not seen them lately. Has anybody else seen them at Jewel? I might have to look and see if I can find them at Mariano's. I think they carried them too. I only buy them when tomatoes are in season and I make homemade salsa.

I am also looking for latex gloves. I wear them in my garden. All I have been able to find is the $1.99 store brand ones which would only last me a few weeks. They also have Mr. Clean ones which are sturdier, but every time I go to Jewel they are out of them, and I can not find them at Target, CVS, Food4Less and Walgreens either. The only stores I have not checked yet are Mariano's, ACE, and Walmart. I live two blocks from Lemoi ACE. I should check in there.

The Saturday Sampler everybody who has J4U gets, but I suspect that Joel's freebies were personalized deals on his J4U account. Usually I get an email about the Saturday Sampler on Saturday morning, but this time I did not. It is on everybody's J4U account though.
I got $.28 bananas and $.98 eggs for specialized deals this week and maybe a few other things that were not deals that I passed on. Hope this helps, Nancy

Okay -- thanks. I wasn't really worried about it. Just wondered why I didn't get an email, when it sounded like someone else did. Of course, even if they didn't send me an email, can't complain too much -- it is, after all, free stuff.

There wasn’t an email for last weekend’s Saturday Sampler. That’s why we depend on Artie to keep us informed.

If you don't want to add your email address under the "pregnant" section for free Nightfood, you can get one pint free through this link:

I find their marketing rather interesting: a healthier alternative for nighttime snacking. Frankly, if I'm reaching for that pint of ice cream (usually Ben & Jerry's) before bed, I want that full-fat, bad for me experience.

The "After Dinner Mint" flavor is fine. It's not what I prefer to buy in ice cream: full fat, all natural, custard base, but it's good for a quick junk food fix (e.g. a couple spoons straight out of the pint) without guilt (80 cal per half cup). It uses rice and tapioca syrup and monk fruit as sweeteners, and a few gums for texture, wait, here's the ingredients from the website.. but at least they're mainly milk and plant-sourced ingredients.
Nightfood wrote:Skim milk, prebiotic fiber (chicory root), milk protein concentrate, brown rice syrup, cream, choco pieces (confectioner’s sugar, coconut oil, cocoa processed with alkali, cocoa, butter oil, soy lecithin, natural flavor), tapioca syrup, glycerin, glycine, Nightfood mineral blend (calcium citrate, magnesium citrate, zinc citrate), natural peppermint flavor, tara gum, guar gum, salt, monk fruit extract

    Hi,

I picked up the Nightfood ice cream at $4.99 per pint. In my shopping cart was 99 cent loss leader Signature ice cream and $2.49 of Blue Bunny ice cream (it was on sale and I had a $1 off coupon).

Are these Jewel - Osco {spliced apart for search purposes} specials available for people who do not possess a smart phone?
The last handful of times I checked out of a Jewel-Osco, I was queried for a telephone number. I put in a number which was my dad's [R.I.P.] and wondered if that was sufficient.
If not, is it possible I can receive these offerings? I do not do most of my grocery shopping on Saturday anyhow. :?:

Maybe you should not consider everything I scribe here as solid. In early July, I wrote about shopping for soda | pop at Jewel. A sentence then read, "This should be enough (soda | pop) for me for at least a year or so,"
It may still be, but I am going to buy more (different) soda | pop when it is put on sale.
That has happened this week in metropolitan Chicago.
Both Jewel and Tony's have put 12-packs of 12-oz. soda | pop on sale for $2.99; with a 'must buy 4, limit of 8' codicil.
A significant difference is that Jewel's sale includes Coca-Cola products.
So, on Thursday, 3 September, I pulled out the 1987 Chevrolet Sprint to go beverage shopping. This is my twisted , COVID-19, revision of "Thurst Firsday".
My route consisted of several stops. First was a trip to a metal recycler. This time, instead of T & Z Metals, I tried J & S Metals @ 4700 W. Belmont Ave. He redeems for less money than T & Z. :( I got only 90¢ for my bag of aluminum cans from here.
    Then, since (again), it is a bad move to grocery shop on an empty stomach, I had to stop somewhere to eat. I selected the Burger King at 3167 N. Milwaukee Ave. This specific BK has its ups and downs, but it is better than some of the others I have hit. {The one at North and Lamon Aves. is really shaky. And, it is only available for motorized customers. Yet it is a shop which I would be wary you would pay for something you did not get, and the psychology of a drive-thru is 'move on - the next order is waiting', so you wouldn't discover this until you got home. :evil:}
This BK is allowing dine-in customers. It selects certain tables where you can eat. It wants you out of there in 30 minutes. I used a coupon for two Whopper Jrs. & two fries for $3.99. The Value drink is $1.49 more.
That concluded. I set out further east on Belmont Ave. for the Beer Cellar. I had previously noticed it had DuClaw Brwg.'s beers in 12-oz. bottles from Baltimore, MD. This was on a long list of possibilities were I to go to Hammond, Indiana, where its distribution limit used to be. There, I bought three of its beers:
    1. Sweet Baby Jesus
    2. Sweet Baby Jesus Java
    3. Dirty Little Freak
    - they were $12.99 each,
and one 6-pack of 12-oz. bottles of Seipp's Extra Pale pre-prohibition pilsner ($10.49). Total at The Beer Temple = $54.53.
The next stop was further north on Elston Ave.; A Jewel-Osco at 3570 N. Elston. This is also one of those Jewels which is listed on the one-page monthly sheet aimed at Latinx neighborhoods. At Jewel, I intended to concentrate on Coca-Cola products. But the selection was not quite for what I hoped, but there was one surprise. This Jewel has Fresca 12-packs. I have not glimpsed Fresca in a long time. Fresca does not appear in Coca-Cola Freestyle. But I didn't want any grapefruit flavored soda | pop, or root beer as well, so they weren't bought.
    1. Coca-Cola cherry [2]
    2. Sprite lymonade [2]
    3. Minute Maid lemonade
    4. Fanta orange
    5. Pepsi wild cherry
    6. Canada Dry ginger ale
Also bought here was two 12-packs of 12-oz. bottles of Leinenkugel's Oktoberfest beer ($11.99 each).
Total at this Jewel = $51.08.

The next store was a Tony's Fresh Market at 4137 N. Elston. This was one of Tony's first expansions back 25 years or so. It had been a Butera. Besides the soda | pop, I bought five boxes of Cheez-It crackers ($1.99 each, must buy five), two boxes of Entenmann's rich frosted donuts (2 | $5.69), and two 8½-oz. bags of Vitner's potato chips [rippled, triple cheese] for $1.99 each. If you visit this Tony's (or any Tony's) and purchase eight 12-packs, read your register receipt before you leave the store! I was not given the three dollar discount of 12-packs #5-8. I had to queue at the customer service counter to be properly recompensed.
The soda | pop purchased here were
    1. Schweppes Ginger Ale
    2. Dr. Pepper & Cream Soda
    3. Dr. Pepper
    4. Royal Crown
    5. 7-Up
    6. Pepsi
    7. Pepsi with real sugar
    8. Diet Sierra Mist no sugar
The corrected total here = $50.37.
The last grocery stop was the Jewel-Osco at 4660 W. Irving Park. This is another store angling for Latinx customers. It was weird that here I bought more non-Coca-Cola products than the former.
    1. Coca-Cola cherry [2]
    2. Pepsi wild cherry [2]
    3. Pepsi with real sugar
    4. Mountain Dew Liberty {multi-flavored}
    5. Vernors ginger
    6. Big Red
If you look up Genesee Cream Ale on its finder W-WW site, this Jewel appears as a location. It is not available here. You will have to go the three blocks west to Binny's if you want it {15-pack $7.98 w | Binny's card}. However, this Jewel did have 12-packs of 12-oz. bottles of Leinenkugel's Original, and Shiner Oktoberfest helles ($11.99 each).
The total here was = $54.39.
Adding up all the purchases today (all charged to a Visa credit card), the grand total was $210.37.

The soda | pop status in the basement is now:
    • 5 Pepsi with real sugar -29 Mar, 17 May 2021
    • 4 Coca-Cola cherry -17 May 2021
    • 4 Dr. Pepper -143, 165, 176, 242
    • 3 Pepsi cherry -20 Feb 2021
    • 3 Dr. Pepper & Cream Soda -14 Mar, 22 Mar 2021, 221
    • 3 7-Up -171, 181, 242
    • 3 Royal Crown -170, 176, 240
    • 3 Sprite -15 Mar, 29 Mar 2021
    • 2 Sprite lymonade -12 Apr 2021
    • 2 Pepsi -29 Mar, 21 May 2021
    • 1 Canada Dry bold ginger ale -170 {<= this just came upstairs}
    • 1 Dr. Pepper with real sugar -151
    • 1 Squirt ruby red -17 Feb 2021
    • 1 Mountain Dew Liberty -11 Jan 2021
    • 1 Big Red -197
    • 1 Vernors -238
    • 1 Canada Dry ginger ale -236
    • 1 Schweppes ginger ale -10 May 2021
    • 1 Diet Sierra Mist zero sugar -14 Dec 2020
    • 1 Fanta orange -10 May 2021
    • 1 Minute Maid lemonade -8 Feb 2021

    Hi,

I have not been inside any fast food place since March.

At Costco, if you want a refill, you need to get a fresh cup.

I assume you refilled your drink at BK, how was it handled?

A few weeks ago I went to Panera Bread for lunch after I had my blood drawn at my doctor's. This was the first time I had been inside a restaurant other than once at Starbuck's to get a cup of coffee. They had about a third of their indoor seating available, and they also had outdoor seating too. I bought some coffee there, and I did not get a second cup of coffee, but I am pretty sure that I saw a sign that you had to get a new cup if you wanted refills on your coffee or pop. The restaurant was not crowded at all. Most of the customers were using the drive up. I had not been there since January though, and they changed their menu, and I always get the 1/2 sandwich and soup combination, but they got rid of a lot of their healthy options, and lunch cost me $13. It used to be one of my favorite places for lunch.

I did not try for a refill at Burger King. I might have gone without a drink if I did not think the fries would have dried out my taste buds without one. I wanted something in my stomach to prevent :?: hunger pangs from influencing my shopping selections.
This BK is one with the Coca-Cola Freestyle machine. I have actually gone as far as typing out what are the available selections. I will gravitate toward the Minute Maid flavors, but there are three branches for Minute Maid: Sparkling, Lemonade, and drinks. Communicating that to staff is slightly problematic. This BK has discontinued its customer Coca-Cola Freestyle machine. I would have to interact with staff. At Wendy's; I did not want a refill, but it handed me a cup and let me use its Coca-Cola Freestyle machine.
I edited my previous post here to indicate that Fresca is not included in Coca-Cola Freestyle systems.
But I can't answer your query.

I have a coupon for a free 1.5 qt Sig Select Ice Cream in my J4U coupons. Maybe other jewel j4u people here do too. I clipped it, ordered it with my delivery order yesterday. Oddly, it's the only thing they wouldn't substitute. Maybe they were out of every flavor. Irks me, but actually, they very well may have been out of them ALL.

Everybody got something different, or did not get anything. I got a free yogurt. A Facebook group that I also post on, somebody's daughter got the yogurt, but Joan did not get anything, and other people got granola bars, and a whole host of other stuff. Nobody mentioned getting free ice cream. If you go to Jewel at 10:00 at night the store is practically empty.

Hi- I have a friend who finally joined J4U a few weeks ago. I kept telling her how much I save through the program. She mostly shops at Jewel and Aldi's. She likes Aldi's because she does not have to cut out any coupons or watch for sales. If Jewel has sugar for $.99 she'll tell me she does not need it, and when she does need it a month later, it is $2.99, but it is only $1.99 at Aldi's.

I was surprised when she told me a few weeks ago that she signed up for J4U. She asked me about how it operates, and I told her that she has 90 points at the end of the month, they then expire, and she has to start all over again accumulating points, and that she needs 100 points to get a reward. The first time she signed into her account at Jewel she saved $20, but she bought some stuff such as cheap cookies and yogurt that I passed on because I don't eat a lot of junk food, even if it is cheap. I just talked to her again today, and she is having second thoughts about J4U, because she is concerned it is too much work. She is worried that she will have to log into her account multiple times during the week, and she is also concerned about how she can keep track of all of the deals while she is at Jewel. I told her that a lot of people look up their account on their cell phone while they are in the store. She also said that some of the stuff that was really cheap on J4U the last time she was at Jewel, they were out of, and no she would not go to CS to see if they would substitute something else. How does everybody else keep track of their J4U offers while they are at Jewel? I sometimes write them down. I also told her about today's Saturday sampler, and she asked me if she would have to buy it today, and I told her she had until Monday to buy it. She also was not crazy about the fact that she would have to log into her account to get it for free. Thanks, Nancy
