Macedonian Type 400 flour, 5kg for $9.99 at Brookhaven Market (site of old Arlington Heights Valli.) Type 400 is soft, very finely milled flour used for spongy type pastries including yeast-raised ones. This might be unbleached...the color is a yellowish cream. Label doesn't say.

I tried it today for ordinary baking powder waffles - worked well for that. And how often are you gonna buy a food from Macedonia?

    Hi,

I recently finished up two packages of rice from Macedonia. I picked up this rice at a salvage store, so it was very cheap, too.

I just bought 20 pounds of rice from Missouri. A friend bought rice from Illinois.

    Regards,

Interesting - did you find the Missouri rice around here? Or down that way?

Costco's prepared meals are pretty reliable (they have repurposed rotisserie chicken into numerous dishes - pot pie, soup, chicken salad, etc.). A few years back they introduced chicken taco kits which have been replicated at Mariano's and elsewhere. Today I saw a shrimp tempura version of the taco kit which is pretty good. Comes complete with fresh pico de gallo, corn tortillas, shredded cabbage, limes and cilantro crema. About $15 with enough food for 3.

Interesting you mentioned Costco's prepared meals and I ran across this article from Business Insider where the author tried and subjectively ranked the prepared meals at Costco. After I read his first review of mac and cheese I knew this guy has bland palate and prefers Kraft over a commercial kitchen product.
In my opinion, the mac and cheese was way too rich. There was a lot of cheese and a lot of sauce, and it was unpleasantly gooey and thick.

ImageThis eggplant dip was in the near-expired bin at Lewis Fresh on Grand in Waukegan. Ingredients are simply grilled eggplant, tahini, salt and citric acid. It definitely had a tinge of smokey flavor and a mashed but not completely pureed or strained texture. Good on crackers straight from the can, would be even better with a hefty shake of zatar and pepper.

I bought recently: Southern Recipe, small batch, Krutones, chicharron croutons 'butter and garlic.' Suggested serving as a crouton in a salad.

I ate them before they ever reach a salad.

Pork rinds, chicken skin, salmon skin, jerky, etc. have had serious growth in areas previously held by starchy foods (chips, croutons, etc.) because of the low carb movement.

On the top edge of the bag it was highlighted:
    - 1 gram total carbohydrate per serving
    - 5 gram collagen per serving
*not a significate source of protein, collagen has a 0% digestibility factor
    - gluten free

Only thing missing was no GMO! :D
