I just finished the 8# of De Cecco bucatini that my friend gave me a couple of years ago. Honestly, we really did not like the pasta all that much.
My take on this situation is this. When you are a manufacturer of any product - consumer or otherwise - and you are facing an unprecedented demand for your products in general, you dedicate your production to those products that literally fly off the shelves. And when you add in that MANY manufacturing plants in Italy and the United States are losing production employees to COVID-19, their capacity is very limited. In that circumstance, I would be focused on the pastas with the highest sales, not a specialty product.
When Coca-Cola was facing a shortage of available aluminum cans, they focused on the high movers. That allowed them to eliminate a number of less profitable products that had only regional or niche appeal.
