Hi- Does anybody know when the city of Chicago and Green City markets are going to open up? I wonder if they are going to have Daley Plaza and Federal Plaza this summer? I know they did not open up last summer. It sounds like all of the farmers markets this summer at least in the beginning of the summer are pretty much operate as they did last summer with the COVID precautions. Wilmette and Wheaton are going to open up on 4/17. I don't know how much produce they are going to have that early. There is potentially going to be a Thursday market in downtown Glencoe this summer too. They are just waiting for village approval.

Here is a list of the French markets and the dates they are opening up.

Their website says "GCM Lincoln Park will reopen on Saturday, May 1 and GCM West Loop will open on Saturday, June 5 for our 2021 season! Check out our calendar for GCM's 2021 schedule."

Green City Market was hopping this morning on opening day. I don't think I saw a maskless person in the entire ~90 minutes I was there. Plenty of applicable signage and people socially distancing, though maybe not exactly 6 feet in every direction at all times. But respectful, safe and friendly. Dogs and strollers in abundance. Clearly, there seemed to be ample pent up demand for springtime market activity, even among non-shoppers.

Bought some stuff from Ellis, Froggy Meadow, Frillman, Nichols, GAI Ghee, Smits and River Valley Ranch. Single most expensive purchase was the parking, which remains out of GCM's control.

Didn't get any bread but it was good to see several sellers, including my favorite, Middle Brow, who had been absent from GCM in 2020. You can order ready-to-eat food -- and several stalls were slinging some good-looking fare -- but as of now, you're not permitted to eat it within the confines of the market.

    Yay, market season! :)

The Lincoln Square farmers' markets are starting up this week. Tuesday morning (7 am to 1 pm) and Thursday afternoon 3 pm to 7 pm. The first half hour is for seniors and the immunocompromised. There appear to be a few new vendors while all of the stronger fruit and vegetable vendors from last year are back.

Does anyone know what happened to Green Acres? They are no longer on the vendor list for Evanston or Green City. We got their CSA last year but haven't heard a peep out of them since December (their last post on social media). They've been a staple at the Farmers Market for years and always had some really interesting and unusual stuff. I hope that Covid didn't put them under!

According to NFriday in the Evanston Farmer's Market thread, the Green Acres folks decided to retire.
