I am just curious if people are buying less at the farmer's market this year. It seems like last year, people were eating at home more, and they considered the farmer's market a safer place to get their produce than Jewel, and it seemed like the farmers in general had no problem selling their stuff, and people were signing up for CSA like crazy because they liked knowing where there stuff was coming from.
Granted there were probably some people that normally went to the farmer's market last year, that decided to go out of town this weekend, but it seems like there are more people showing up this season that don't cook, and just buy already prepared stuff, and I don't think people are cooking as much at home as they did last summer. Last year every body was gardening, and it was hard to get plants and gardening supplies. Today at the Evanston market, I just did not see a lot of people looking at Teresa's plants, and she still had a ton left when I left the market at noon. Also Henry still had lots of stuff to sell, and Jon First still had at least 20 bunches of asparagus he had not sold yet, and I am sure they ended up at the food pantry.
Flour and yeast is a lot easier to find than it was a year ago too. I don't think a lot of people are making sour dough bread like they did last year. I think a lot of people assume the pandemic is over, and they can go back to their previous life. Hopefully things will pick up at the farmers market when they finally lift the mask requirement. When I got there today, there was a gentleman who brought his two kids who were both wearing masks, but for some reason this gentleman did not want to wear one, and he was arguing with the people at the front entrance about it.
