I used to really pooh-pooh the weird pizzas, but using the Trader Joe's crust--kinda Roman-esque--I've started experimenting, not always successfully.
In the late '70's, when I worked at the pan pizza place Felix & Oscar's in Iowa City, after closing we'd grab drinks and start talking about the best non-traditional combination on a pizza. Just BS to pass the time, and we came up with Canadian bacon/green pepper as a winner.
Still working on that one on my own, and speaking of the pickle pizza I want to succeed with a cheeseburger pizza--I saw it in rural Iowa, tried it and hated to admit I liked it.
