This is nice news.
I've long lost my need to kvetch about this stuff/cajole people to shop markets. Still, like I say, good news.
For one thing, there's no reason from a weather/seasonality/technology perspective that you cannot stock a farmer's market in Chicago in April. Hell, I was at the NYC Greenmarket a few weeks ago, and there was more than enough that one wouldn't starve as a locavore, and this was February. For another thing, even here, there's like a whole season's worth of crops, the earliest greens, ramps, ferns, morels, that come and go before markets even open. There is stuff that can be sold in April.
So, again, great news re GCM opening early.
