I have shopped at the various Angelo Caputo's locations for years. Recently (maybe 9-12 months ago) I guess a Joseph Caputo's opened up in the Palatine area. I see that VI posted about the 'Caputo Brothers' perhaps implying that they were related and friendly, even.

I didn't know what to think of the Joseph Caputo's opening. Are they related? Is it a friendly or comptetitive endeavor?

Also, I have heard rumors of a Caputo's opening on Randall Road. I emailed 'AskAngelo' about this, but never got a reply. Does anyone have any details?

    Thanks!

    Christine:

There's some information which may be of help in this specific post:

    http://lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?p=26913#26913

There's more information further down in the same thread (Bob Kopczinski's post), as well as mention of other Italian groceries, so it might be worth going through the whole thing.

The Palatine store is Joe Caputo & Sons. This is their second store. From their Web site:

Joe Caputo's opened its doors at 959 E. Oakton in Des Plaines on August 30, 1989. Guiseppe (Joe) and Anna Caputo and their sons, Natale and Vito, began the family-owned and operated business with a goal to establish a retail fruit and Italian specialty grocery store. Joe Caputo brought over 30 years of grocery retail experience to the business.

I wrote about the store here: http://lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?p=37943#37943

I guess there’s another Caputo in the ranks...

That's a tough location and as the article mentioned several other stores there failed. On top of that,Pete's Fresh Market is supposed to open in Matteson in former Dominicks location on Lincoln Hwy although nobody seems to know when. That Park Forest location is a little ways off of Lincoln Hwy and thus unseen by many.

Apparently Nat Caputo used to work at Joe Caputo's. From what I have heard Angelo and Joe are brothers and barely speak to each other. A good friend of my sister Annette that has the farm in Michigan used to sell a lot of veggies to Joe Caputo, and when my sister told her about Joe's money problems, she said he always paid her, but that it did not surprise her.

Unless it is a different Nat, he owns the Caputo Cheese end of things and used to own the Caputos in Lake Forest, which is now Visconti, several of whose employees are doing a very poor job wearing their masks.
