I know they have offered hammocks and battery heated house slippers. Quirky stuff and if it does not sell, it is quickly discounted.

Aldi's Herring Fillets in Curry Pineapple.

Unpleasant experience yesterday at Aldi on Dundee Rd. Corned beef points had been under $3, so I tried to pick up 1 or 2. Price gouging alert!!!!!!
Points were up to $7 per lb for the last minute shoppers. Is this ethical?
Perhaps they’ll be ?2.50 next week.

It's certainly offensive and off-putting. A lot of 'Markets' operate like this but retail grocery isn't typically one of them. I wondered, though, because on the corned beef thread, it was noted that the price on Aldi's flats had jumped a couple of bucks per pound over the course of just a few days last week. Now, you're reporting another jump, effectively doubling the price in a matter of a week.
I'm new to Aldi, so I don't know if this is typical. And I'm not a big enough fan to go back soon and see if the price has now receded, especially in light of your post. Really disappointing.

I’ve been into an Aldi exactly three times, and don’t plan to return.
BuddyRoadhouse wrote:Aldi's sales, like most grocers in the Chicago area, run Wednesday to Tuesday. The Corned Beef was on sale the entire week leading up to St. Pat's, which happened to fall on a Thursday, two days after the promotional price ended. Yes, it would have been nice if they'd extended the sale through today, but the numbers you've quoted are the typical everyday prices, and do not represent last minute gouging, just bad timing.
In fact, based on past experience, if there was an abundance of Corned Beef left over after St. Pat's, I've seen the prices drop even lower, just to move the older units. When I went shopping on Wednesday, my Aldi in Des Plaines had only three flats left at the regular price. I doubt there will be any further reduction.

ronnie_suburban wrote:That might explain one of the price jumps but it went from $3.99/pound when you posted on 3/11 to $5.79/pound when I shopped on 3/12 to $7/pound today. That was all within less than a week with only one Thursday in there, so I don't quite understand what happened.

Thanks for posting, I will check out my local Aldi this week. They have not been in the last few times I went, though I don't go that often. Might also try some of that $3 spaghetti and clams BrendanR posted about.

Thank you. I do shop at Winco here in Salem Oregon. It sounds like basically ALDIs is a "cheap" grocery store. Thanks again.jlawrence01 wrote:Xexo wrote:Since there are no ALDI food stores in Oregon, I was wondering why they seem to appeal to so many people,
While I PREFER Winco Foods here in Arizona to ALDI in terms of both variety and price, ALDI offers great value, especially in markets with little competition.
My first trip to ALDI was attributed to finding that Jewel was selling saltines for $2.49 and ALDI at $0.85.
I try products. If I like them, it is great. If not, I don't buy it again.
Right now, I am snacking on the Great Value (Wal-Mart) Twist and Shout Cookies. They are better than my last package of Oreos.
