I cannot speak for every store but the ones in Cincinnati and Phoenix generally have a few shelves with markdowns. We usually check those for any markdowns, especially when you are at the end of a season.

Pre-2020, there used to be a pretty substantial number of closeouts and markdowns at Aldi, especially in the non-food "aisle of shame" and especially at stores in neighborhoods where there wasn't a lot of cash for impulse purchases. Among other winners, I have picked up winter boots for $10, a nice mini food processor for $10, Silpat-knockoff half sheet mats for $1, and a walkin greenhouse for $20 (that's more of a walkin for hobbits, but still very usable.) Since then, the clearance items have largely dried up. On the contrary, ebayers and FB marketplacers buy up quantities of the specials right away for resale.

On Wednesday, 9 March, I opted to take the 1987 Chevrolet Sprint out for some shopping trips.
I thought about making one all-encompassing journey post, but felt that would not fit in any rubric here at LTHF. So here is the post in which I shopped at Aldi @ 4627 W. Diversey Ave. {which you might otherwise think to where I would ride transit}. :?:
If you puzzle why I was out, and motoring; on Tuesday, I took delivery of an LG 50" UHD Television Set [50UP8000PUR] from Abt, and was looking for an HDMI 2.1 cable, and a cheap DVD player with an HDMI interface. My choice for where to shop for this was the Cook Brothers warehouse @ Grand & Kostner. (It had neither, but I bought an HDMI 2.0 cable, and some batteries there.)
    ("Pudgy, buy the 2.0 and search for a cheap 2.1 cable on-line." :!: )
I could have shopped the Aldi @ Kostner, Grand, & North Aves., but as I had not yet had lunch, bypassed that to motor to Jimmy's Red Hots @ Grand & Pulaski.
There were two other shops interspersed with this, and I shall post about those in those stores' topics.
    Interestingly enough, Aldi was out of the lunchbox pies. None of the breads, buns, or bagels were on half-price. I bought two packages of plain bagels for $1.49 each. There was a new product in the snack aisle: Pajéda's crunchy cheese curls, 6-oz. for $1.23; made from real cheese, and bioengineered food ingredients :roll:. Pajéda is from Axium Foods, Inc. of South Beloit, IL. 61080. This is something I would otherwise buy at Dollar Tree for $1.00, but since everything at Dollar Tree is now $1.25, felt I should give this a shot. {And Dollar Tree should really rebrand to Dollar and a Quarter Tree. A twenty-five percent price hike is significant. You must have spotted that a section of the Jewel-Osco weekly ad now boasts of what it has for one dollar.}
Pretty much everything else was chocolate, the Moser Roth, and Choceur® bars, $1.39-1.99. Except for a package of Stackers Cheddar cheese potato crisps, 5½-oz. 99¢, and the 20-pack of Benner® Green Tea, $1.19. I did not buy any beer here.
    The total = $18.37.

I finally made it to ALDI in Goodyear, AZ. I bought three cans of the Herring Fillets in Curry Pineapple. they were in the right area of the shelf but were stacked in a produce box. It was a good way of hiding them.

    LTH,

Unpleasant experience yesterday at Aldi on Dundee Rd. Corned beef points had been under $3, so I tried to pick up 1 or 2. Price gouging alert!!!!!!
Points were up to $7 per lb for the last minute shoppers. Is this ethical?
Perhaps they’ll be $2.50 next week.

It's certainly offensive and off-putting. A lot of 'Markets' operate like this but retail grocery isn't typically one of them. I wondered, though, because on the corned beef thread, it was noted that the price on Aldi's flats had jumped a couple of bucks per pound over the course of just a few days last week. Now, you're reporting another jump, effectively doubling the price in a matter of a week.

I'm new to Aldi, so I don't know if this is typical. And I'm not a big enough fan to go back soon and see if the price has now receded, especially in light of your post. Really disappointing.

Aldi's sales, like most grocers in the Chicago area, run Wednesday to Tuesday. The Corned Beef was on sale the entire week leading up to St. Pat's, which happened to fall on a Thursday, two days after the promotional price ended. Yes, it would have been nice if they'd extended the sale through today, but the numbers you've quoted are the typical everyday prices, and do not represent last minute gouging, just bad timing.

In fact, based on past experience, if there was an abundance of Corned Beef left over after St. Pat's, I've seen the prices drop even lower, just to move the older units. When I went shopping on Wednesday, my Aldi in Des Plaines had only three flats left at the regular price. I doubt there will be any further reduction.

That might explain one of the price jumps but it went from $3.99/pound when you posted on 3/11 to $5.79/pound when I shopped on 3/12 to $7/pound today. That was all within less than a week with only one Thursday in there, so I don't quite understand what happened.

Raising prices like that solely for profit doesn't make sense at that level. More than likely their supplier costs were up (now the supplier may well be gouging, but whole 'nother thread there).

I received some intel (via the excellent subreddit: https://old.reddit.com/r/aldi/) that the seafood pasta was back and I secured two bags each of the Spaghetti with clams and Linguine with seafood. These are fine products that easily out-kick their $3 price tags. Add a bit of parsley!

When I was at Aldi's Evanston store Sunday, I noticed that bananas were now $.54, and milk was $2.93. All I ended up getting was some canned pumpkin. They still had some of that left for $.95 a can. This is probably going to be it though until next fall.

    My list:
Baker's Corner flour. It's soft bleached flour great for cookies and pie crust when that time of year rolls around.
Burman's mayo. The best, better than any of the name brands. Very thick and mild.
Milled flax seed. Cheap and they always have it.
    Fancy trail mixes
Crackers, both plain (fake Wheat Thins and Cheezits) and fancy (seasonal water crackers and the like)
    Basic produce
RBC (red bag chicken). Expensive, and getting even more so, but good.

    and not on my list:
Potato chips (bags are half crumbs)
    Cottage cheese and yogurt (watery)
Dried beans. Had a bad experience with a really sandy bag. Hard on the teeth, pun intended.
Winking Owl wines (similar to 2 Buck Chuck but arguably not as good)

While I PREFER Winco Foods here in Arizona to ALDI in terms of both variety and price, ALDI offers great value, especially in markets with little competition.

My first trip to ALDI was attributed to finding that Jewel was selling saltines for $2.49 and ALDI at $0.85.

I try products. If I like them, it is great. If not, I don't buy it again.

Right now, I am snacking on the Great Value (Wal-Mart) Twist and Shout Cookies. They are better than my last package of Oreos.

I'll be eyballing Aldi for lamb clearance. Last year I scored some cryovacked leg roasts after Easter that were freekin fantastic.

Ooof. I just lost a huge chunk to a Firefox crash. I should have composed this off-line. Which I just did. :!:
I did pretty well. Before I got to Aldi, I returned to Food4Less (4821 W. North Av.). When I went there on Saturday, I was on the #54 Cicero bus, so I could not bring back a lot of items.
Not mentioned on its weekly flyer was a smaller glossy sheet of items which if you bought six (6) or more, you saved 50¢ off each. This was stocked at its entrance to the store interior. On this was Cheez-it snack crackers. With the 50¢ savings, this put its price below that of Jewel-Osco, which was mentioning it in its weekly flyer. So the Jewel-Osco trip was eliminated.
I visited its clearance rack (everybody is remarking about the clearance rack this week ), which is nearby the washrooms on the northeast corner of the store. There was Flipz dark chocolate pretzels 6½ oz. $1.09 ~ talk about a combination.
The other 50¢ off items were Calidad tortilla chips 12 oz. $1.50 (2) and Cheetos 8½ oz. $3.49 (2) The four $1.88 chips were three Ruffles potato chips and one Doritos tortilla chips.
The item I seek at Food4Less is the 10-pack of Kroger breakfast croissants. It was not there. It has not been there for awhile.
So then I motored to the Aldi (4627 W. Diversey St.). It had a number of Easter items deeply discounted. It also had slashed the price of the 6-pack of regular-size Hershey bars to $3.98. Regular price was paid for the Moser Roth 5-packs of chocolate bars ($1.99) and the Choceur mini-bar 5-packs ($1.99).
Bought at clearance prices was Storck Merci 8.8 oz. 20-pack - 8 varieties $2.74; the 100-pack of Mars Wrigley miniatures (3 Musketeers, Snickers, etc.) for $4.99; and Choceur milk chocolate coins 4.06 oz. 99¢ (2).
Other items bought @ Aldi were breakfast croissants 4-pack $3.99 (breakfast biscuits were $3.49), Neuchatel cheese $1.39 (3), lunchbox pies (cherry, apple) 79¢ (8), box of 20 green tea bags $1.19 (2); and a surprise for me - a 4-pack of 16 oz. cans of Half Acre Daisy Cutter ale for $5.99, and a 6-pack of 12 oz. cans of State of Brewing (Octopi Brwg.) Key Lime Sour for $6.39. The total @ Aldi = $58.96
I believe I have enough snack crackers and chocolates here to last for a while. 8)

Does anybody here know how much Aldi's is charging for a gallon of 1% milk? I usually go to the Evanston store. I got a personalized price of $2.84 last week at Jewel, but I did not get it this week, and milk has gone up to $3.49 I think a gallon at Jewel. Does anybody else have cheaper milk? When I was at Sam's Club on Saturday, they were out of 1% milk.

If you’re willing to go to Sam’s in Evanston, consider Food 4 Less. Their website is showing 1% for $3.29/gallon.
