I saw this on cnn today. Waffle House is now charging a 50-cent surcharge for every egg that is used in whatever dish you order. They also mentioned that one of the things that usaid is responsible for, is keeping track of cases of bird flu. Since their funding is on hold, they are now not able to track bird flu cases.

I imagine that most breakfast places are hurting right now due to the cost of eggs. I've heard that they are going to be expensive for most of the year.

U SAID is foreign aid, so probably not them... But the administration has (hopefully) temporarily forbidden external communication by all health agencies (it's put a damper on an industry conference I used to attend this week). There's a substack called Your Local Epidemiologist with more details and some mitigations.

A different marker to the Waffle House Index.

Former USAID Administrator Samantha Power said on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert a night or two ago that USAID was indeed monitoring bird flu in 49 countries.
