I always buy stuff from kids (i.e. popcorn, pizza, etc....) and most are not always that appetizing, but I do it for them. Why put your paltry two cents into bashing these type of things. I don't get why that is important to you.
Is it no longer okay to express our opinions about food here? These are relatively low-grade goods that contain at least one really questionable ingredient. On top of that, they don't even taste close to as good as they once did. I see no reason why discussion of this should be out of bounds.
No one in my house wanted to eat them and I didn't feel good about bringing them to the food pantry, either. So, back when my nieces were selling them, I'd always give them some money and tell them to donate or keep the cookies (or the popcorn or what have you). There's nothing preventing any of us from supporting the causes we believe are worthy without getting something in return for it.
