Starting Tuesday, the hungry and too busy in the Loop and River North can have their lunches delivered using the UberEATS feature on their Uber smartphone app, traditionally used to hail rides.

We have no idea how young the DNA reporter is. He might have spent the whole second half of his life since Uber's launch.

Three months after launching its lunch-delivery service in the Loop, Uber is diving into dinner. Beginning tonight with service in River North, Streeterville, the Gold Coast and Lincoln Park, UberEats aims to deliver dinner to customers' doors in less than 10 minutes, using the same transportation network it's built to ferry passengers around the city.

As far as I am concerned Uber's days are numbered. I am in the insurance business and I don't know of any insurance companies that will allow people to use their personal car to drive for Uber and still be covered during the times they are not driving with a passenger, or simply driving for personal use. The only policy they can get is a taxi/livery policy which costs thousands. Uber is telling drivers that their personal insurance will cover them, but it's not true. The only time Uber's own insurance covers the driver is when they have a fare in the car. Otherwise, the driver is screwed. There is litigation pending in many states regarding this. As the accidents pile up, the truth will spread. There is a new insurance that is partnering with Uber called MetroMile, but it's a pay as you drive thing.

Anyway, enjoy the Uber delivery while it lasts. Or at least while they have drivers who don't know what they are getting into. And they'll probably never know until it's too late because Uber doesn't have a customer service phone number so no one can ask them.

Uber must pay millions in cash and provide free services to Chicago restaurants as part of a $10 million settlement with the city resolving claims the ride-share company listed restaurants on its UberEats and Postmates platforms without their consent and charged excess commission fees.

The settlement results from a two-year investigation by the city into alleged misconduct on Uber’s meal delivery platforms.

The city said in a news release Monday that after reaching out to the company in 2021, Uber removed all restaurants from its platforms that had been listed without consent and agreed not to list Chicago restaurants without their consent in the future. At that time, Uber also paid $3.3 million to restaurants that were allegedly charged commissions higher than the 15% allowed in the city’s emergency fee cap ordinance.
