I just saw this on tv. Starting Monday 3/29 if you get at least one dose of the COVID vaccine, you can go to Krispy Kreme, and show them your vaccination card, and get a free donut every day for the rest of 2021. I think there are only about three Krispy Kreme locations in the Chicago area including one on State Street. Hope this helps, Nancy

And free Krispy Kreme plus coffee on Mondays through May even if you don't/haven't yet gotten a shot. Supposedly the with-shot offer is through the end of the year. I can't imagine how that will be sustainable once a majority of US adults are vaccinated.

Does this mean you crave doughnuts after the shot?

Maybe they are hoping that people will buy coffee. This is good PR for them, but they could have just limited it to one day, and gotten as much PR.

The locations are much scarcer now after the venture capital expansion and subsequent debt restructuring and closures.

Sure, if someone already has this in their "routine", KK will lose on that person per se (pennies, I would assume at their volume), but for the person who it is not routine, just getting people "out" and into a new routine might be good.

This also assumes that person is (probably) out to venture back into the workforce from Work From Home, so KK might be trying to insert their routine for the old one, which just might have been Dunkin or Stars and Bucks (the hilarious one of many plagiarized names I saw walking in Bethlehem).

This is probably a pretty smooth move, not sure if there are any locations in the ghost town that is downtown Chicago, none that use to be there in the late 90's from what I recall. But with the warmer weather and vaccines, there certainly has been an uptick around noon in passers by.

I seem to remember during their rapid expansion years ago that when the "Hot" light was on, many of the locations passed out free donuts as you waited in line. I think they know as well as anyone, that 1) few people wait in line for just 1 donut. 2) Few people eat just one Krispy Kreme donut (glazed/plain variety) 3) most people are buying multiples and also probably Coffee or other beverage.

Do you get a free diabetes test at the end of the year?

I don't particularly love their doughnuts, their apple fritter is decent, but I love, love, love that they have this offer.

    It just seems... sweet.

Reminds me of the free McDonald's when I was a kid with a high grade on your report card.

They have a store at 108 N. State Street. I have only had Krispy Kreme once years ago when I got a free one at Foodstuff on Central Street in Evanston, and I did not care for it. I don't think they sell them there anymore. I think Dunkin's donuts are better, but they have some fans, and they have certainly gotten lots of press today.

If you think Dunkin is better, then you have never had a still hot original glazed. As someone who regularly goes to North Carolina, I can tell you that those are a small piece of heaven.

In North Carolina, people stand in line and as the donuts come off the belt they are put in a box and sold to the next person in line.

I think they changed the recipe, South Carolinian here. Now I find they have a slick fat taste that I find oddly, unappetizing and unnatural ( like the fry oil is off, but not old/stale). The fritters don't seem to have that. It is probably less pronounced when they are hot.

I was in Block 37 on Saturday with a friend. We weren't about to stand in the line half-way down State Street for Magnolia Bakery. But we both would have gone down stairs for a free doughnut I suspect.

There will be plenty of time for that. Especially if the Starbucks is still open.
