As I posted here, I'm starting this discussion in order to explore the viability of having an LTH Picnic in 2024. The event will need a leader and some additional volunteers (the latter of which I'm happy to sign up for). Please post your thoughts here. Hopefully, we can get something going.

    Thanks,

I would also be happy to assist with next year’s Picnic and/or Anniversary event.

I'm happy to help also, first we should probably pick a date for next year and secure the permit. Rosh Hashanah doesn't begin until October 3, 2024, so we have more open Sunday's available. September 8, 15 or 22 are all possible, let's pick a date so we can get the permit as a placeholder. I vote for September 15, if you tell me what the process and I'm in town I'm happy to get it.

Thank you, Maribeth. Personally, I think either the 15th or the 22nd would be fine but it would be great to know what others think. Just a few moments ago, I received the 'official' email about 2024 from FPCC (which I will also forward to you). The take-away is that permits for 2024 will go on sale on WED 11/15 . . .

    in an email FPCC wrote:Greetings,

We are writing with some important updates on 2024 picnic and event permits in the Forest Preserves of Cook County.

Starting Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at 8:00 am, 2024 permits will be available for purchase online or by telephone. No in-person sales will be taken on Wednesday, November 15. Permits can be purchased online at http://www.fpdcc.com/permits or over the phone by calling 800-870-3666, option 1. Note: due to anticipated high call volume, we strongly advise booking reservations through the online reservation site.

In-person permit sales will begin on Thursday, November 16th, 2023, at the Forest Preserves General Headquarters at (536 N. Harlem Avenue in River Forest, IL) and Dan Ryan Visitor Center (87th and Western) from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. Please note all in-person sales can be done via appointment and walk-ins. Walk-ins may experience a longer wait time as appointments will be given priority. Information on how to schedule an in-person appointment is included below.

    Additional information for 2024 permits:
    • Some areas may be under construction and will not be available for booking. To see the most up to date closure list, please click here.
    • Special use items may be added to a permit at latest 2-weeks before your permit date through one of our Approved Vendors. For more information and the full list of vendors, please visit our website by clicking here. Customers who own their own special use items or wish to rent from a vendor not currently on the district Approved Vendor List must provide proof of insurance via a Certificate of Insurance & Endorsement issued in the name of the permit holder. An example of what is required can be seen here scrolling to down to the section that says additional requirements . . .

Unless someone really wants them, I see no reason to clutter the thread with additional details about the permit acquisition process. I'm happy to answer any questions about procuring the permit, etc. via a voice call, etc.

    Thanks!
