For December, the Evanston Lunch Group™ will be dining at the newly-opened Fat Shallot!

Sam Barron and Sarah Weitz started the Fat Shallot a few years ago with a food truck, and then a booth at Revival Food Hall in the Loop. Since then, they have opened additional locations in Lincoln Park, at the Mart, on Gillson Beach, and now in Evanston. So it fits perfectly with those whining about how Evanston is all chain restaurants!

I've been to their Revival Food Hall location several times, and it's very good. (Pics taken at Revival July 2017)

They have received (and deserve) widespread acclaim for their grilled cheese sandwich (muenster cheese on sourdough with sauteed spinach and caramelized onions).

They used to have terrific milk shakes at Revival but I don't see them on their website menu so I'm not sure those are still available.

I'm not sure whether they have enough seating to accommodate us for dining in, so I'll stop by there some time in the next couple of weeks to check it out and discuss with them. Of course, that will also depend on how many people we have, so while all are welcome, it helps if anyone planning to join us could post here to let us know if you plan to attend, so we can gauge headcount.

The front room was mainly booths, which can be awkward for a larger group. I think there should be a suitable seating arrangement for a group of 10-12 (my totally random estimate) in the back room. If they have ice cream it will just further my impression that it's Central St's version of Buck Russell's, the sandwich and ice cream fountain place that opened up in Wilmette on Greenleaf just east of the tracks a year or so ago.

    I'm in for lunch.
Toast, as every breakfaster knows, isn't really about the quality of the bread or how it's sliced or even the toaster. For man cannot live by toast alone. It's all about the butter. -- Adam Gopnik
