The Evanston Lunch Group will meet at the Wilmette location of Walker Brothers Original Pancake House on January 17th 2022 at 12:30. Of 137 franchise units, this original in the Chicago area is their highest grossing restaurant.
While they are only open until 3:00 p.m. now, they still offer all the old favorites.
Join us for their apple or German Pancakes, Belgian waffles, classic pancakes, crepes, omelettes, eggs or whatever “breakfast all day” option you recall or have never experienced here.

    Hi,

I cannot make it, though you may want to see if they will make you an old-menu and now off-menu item: Palestine Pancakes.

Hmm . . . I wonder if they bear any similarity to Palestinian chicken? :D

I’m out and sorry not to be able to attend.

Reminder that they do not take reservations. Proof of vaccinations and masks are required and enforced. Some unhappy Yelp posters discovered they do enforce these requirements for dining in.

Yay, thanks for asking for these and establishing this off menu item still lives on.

I confess that I was somewhat disappointed in the Palestinian crepes. Basically they were crepes with a sour cream filling. The crepes were nice as usual, but the filling was not interesting. Perhaps the kitchen didn't know how they had been made in the past. I had never had them before, and I doubt that I will again. But it was worth an experiment.

Was there a subtle taste of Cointreau?

It is possible, but if so it was very subtle and overwhelmed by the sour cream of which the crepes were filled.

I tried a little of Gary's Palestinian crepes. I agree there wasn't much going on there. I didn't detect any Cointreau.

They did it without the major ingredient required. Too bad.

The risk with ordering a dish that was dropped from the menu long ago is that the recipe, and the people who prepared it, may also be long gone. Furthermore, the restaurant may no longer stock one of its essential ingredients (which seems likely in this case).

But at least they are well stocked with sour cream!

I'm also wondering what the connection would be between crepes, Cointreau and Palestine.

My guess is that it is connected to Jaffa Oranges, grown in Palestine. See the Wiki page on Jaffa oranges.
