And now for something completely different (apologies to Monty Python). After breakfasty comfort food at Walker Brothers, Indo-Chinese food at Shangri-La, pub food at Double Clutch, and seafood at Pescadro, we’ll be heading west, to Skokie, for Jordanian grub at Jarasa Kabob.

Here’s how they describe their joint:
Jarasa Kabob wrote:Our Mediterranean recipes are inspired from our family’s history in Jerash, a city in northern Jordan, to create an authentic and tasty cuisine that combines both traditional local cooking techniques and international recipes.

And, for the most part, LTHers have approved.

So, we’ll hope to see you there, to help us with ordering power, so we can share many dishes among the whole group.

    Monday, May 2 @ 12:30 pm

    I'm in.

I'm still quite squeamish about eating indoors, especially since I have plans to spend mother's day with the 'original recipe' (who is 87).

I don't believe they have outdoor seating (I'll drive by to check). HOWEVER, I'd like to show up to at least see everyone and say 'hi' and also bequeath the small truckload of bombers I've saved for nr706 if he still wants them for his homebrew.

And try their chicken shawarma again.

I thought I saw a few outdoor seats last time I drove past, although Monday might be a bit chilly for outdoor dining. FWIW, I think all in the group are vaxxed and multiply boosted, but, obviously, you should only do what you feel comfortable with. Nevertheless, it'd be great to see you (and take your bombers).

Driving by today, I can confirm there are a couple of tables outside the restaurant. I can't confirm that the weather will be conducive to outdoor dining.

Originally recommended by the esteemed GWiv, Jarasa Kabob was an auspicious locale for May’s Evanston Lunch Group™ get-together. We were even able to attract a few refugees from the LTH North Lunch Group (all of whom are now also card-carrying members of the Evanston Lunch Group™).

As a fast-casual, counter service place, with our relatively big group, it was wasn’t easy to get pix of everything we had. But we did get a complimentary serving of lentil soup for everyone.

The rest of the ordering included falafel, a couple of mixed grills and mixed shawarmas, feta fries, and fried cauliflower. As usual, everything was shared.

I thought everything was good — better than I’d expect for fast casual. The spicy rice with some of the mixed grills seemed to be a particular standout. Thanks go to LHS and moetchandon for coordinating the ordering process (which can be a bit like herding cats for a group this size).

Not great pix of the orders:

At $21 per person for massive amounts of food (many took home leftovers), it was a pretty good value.

    Thanks, Gary.

They have given me a small freebie every time I have been there. Seems to be standard procedure and I think very smart. It costs them very little and makes you try something different.
