One of the best things about the former Siam Pasta on Dempster in Evanston was the open air rooftop for dining. Last October new ownership took over, remaining Thai, renaming it Yasotorn — a reference a North Eastern Province in Thailand.

I was there during the first week they were open — at that time, they still had a few kinks to work out. One other LTH report, as well as word of mouth from others, suggest it may have gotten better.

At any rate, early September weather should be ideal for sampling their cuisine at lunch on the rooftop Tuesday Sept. 6. Join us!

    I am in.
Toast, as every breakfaster knows, isn't really about the quality of the bread or how it's sliced or even the toaster. For man cannot live by toast alone. It's all about the butter. -- Adam Gopnik

It was nice to see everyone at lunch today.

    The rooftop patio was lovely.

Appreciate the photos with menu description, but would like to hear some opinions on how the food was. Better or worse than expected? Etc.

Speaking for myself only, I thought the panang was delicious, although it could have used a bit more chicken. The other dishes... I didn't dislike anything, but nothing else really wowed me, either. There were dishes on the menu I typically get, but didn't this time (tom kha gai, which we didn't get because soup is not easy to share, pad thai, which we didn't get because we got another noodle dish, and chicken satay, which one of us said wasn't great on a previous visit). So I'm not sure whether I was underwhelmed because the food was just okay, or because these weren't my favorite dishes.

I copied the report (and pics) from the recent lunch, as well as the subsequent comments, over to the dedicated Yasotorn thread. Since that thread resides in EOiC (not Events), it's more likely that future searches will land readers there.
