We're going Commando this month! Village Tavern has several mentions in LTH World as the oldest restaurant in Lake County but no dedicated thread. Let's check out their fish fry, broasted chicken and other goodies. As always, bring a friend.

Might be able to make that. I've blocked my calendar, it might stop other meetings from appearing.

Actually, it's the oldest restaurant in Illinois -- and Long Grove was the first town in Illinois to be given historic status. (And, as a bit of food history, it's where Gloria Jean's got started. Her first shop is now an ice cream shop.)

So please add me to the list of those who will be attending.

Move me to the maybe column, but I am still hoping to make it.

Put me down as probable. May be a game time decision.

    Thanks, Will

    HI,

This was going to be a last minute call, which means I cannot make it.

    So sorry!

Quite enjoyable -- a small group today, and not a lot of depth of the menu explored with three of us ordering the (very reasonably priced and nicely crisply breaded) fish fry.

The fish fry's slaw was tasty but very reminiscent of Jewel's house brand: there's a good chance it's a from a food service tub.

The fries were starch-coated -- not my favorite, but well cooked. SueF's waffle-cut sweet potato fries remained crisp down to the last one (but that $4 upcharge!).
