Oh -- and will there be water or tea for those of us who may not feel up to alcohol that evening?

    Hi Cynthia,

I'll shoot you a PM with the payment info.

As for non-alcoholic beverages, I'm sure they'll be available but I never asked if they were included in the price. Obviously water will be gratis. As for tea, soft drinks, etc. I'll ask and see what they say.

Would it be realistic to request that attendees do a COVID test within a few hours before arrival? I have autoimmune issues and would be much more comfortable in a group if we all tested negative first.

To be clear, I'm not asking to have LTH police the group. And I will of course mask myself when not eating. But testing first would bring additional peace of mind, and I'm certain I am not the only medically fragile person in the group.

I was going to post something about this as the date got closer. Unfortunately, asking everyone to test (a few hours before or even on the day of) isn't realistic. Even if we did, there's no way to verify everyone's results, which could be inaccurate anyway. Nor are we going to have any control over restaurant staff, delivery drivers or carry-out customers, all of whom will (most likely) be present during our event. So, for a number of reasons, asking everyone in our group to test is not only unworkable but would also provide a false sense of security.

I think the best we can do is ask people who are not feeling 100% well on the day of the event -- and those who know they have covid -- to not attend. This is one of those situations where we just have to trust that the members of our community will do the right thing. Beyond that, we each need to treat this like any trip to any restaurant. If that makes the event inaccessible for anyone who's already paid, refunds will be issued upon request.

    Thanks,

Yes, soda (coke, sprite and diet coke) and hot tea are included in the price.

    One additional note:

My goal is not to pressure anyone but if at all possible, chef would like our final head count by the end of the weekend. And we are nearing our attendee cap. All this is to say that if you're on the fence about this, please sign up asap. At this point, I'm inclined to say that we'll end ticket sales at 10pm CT on Sunday 11/20.

    Hi all,

We're now into 'overtime' on this event. We still have a few more spots and I'd hate for anyone to be left out. To that end, the team at Khmai understands that we could use a few more days before we give them our final count. So, if you're interested in attending, please let us know asap and we'll get it taken care of. That said, I'd like to let Khmai know by the end of the week and with Thanksgiving coming up on Thursday, that's effectively Wednesday this week.

    Thanks again,

Anyone driving from the northwest suburbs who might be interested in carpooling -- if for no other reason than trying to find parking near the restaurant?

In a couple of hours, I'm going to let Chef Mona & Team know our head count, so if you're on the fence, now is the time. If you decide after that point that you want to attend, it's not the end of the world (and probably still possible) but it will make things much easier on them if we give them as accurate a number as possible today.

Alternatively, if someone from up north is taking I94, perhaps we could meet. Just hoping to make parking less problematic.

The event's just a few days away so I figured it might be a good time to ask if anyone's interested in running/MC'ing the gift exchange? If so, please step forward. :) I've got the 2-part raffle tickets at the ready for whoever would like to do it.

On another note, I also have blank name tags and sharpies, so we should be set on that front.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Thursday!

Chouxfly said he'd be willing to play LTH Santa and pass out the gift goodies if you still need someone.

Let's talk food drive! You do not need me to tell you how rough things have gotten for some of our fellow Chicagoans. We have been donating directly to the Greater Chicago Food Depository for the last few years, and they are still committed to doing the work to keep our most vulnerable neighbors fed.

If you choose to bring food donations, please go with the most needed items: canned proteins (tuna, chicken, beans), and dry bulk (pasta, rice, cereal), as well as personal care items (soap, shampoo, menstrual products). These will be delivered the next day to one of the GCFD's local distribution points (the Howard Area Community Center).

By far, every food pantry's greatest need is money. I am able to collect cash or checks (made out to GCFD), and Venmo/PayPal/Zelle (mamagotcha@gmail.com, 816-456-9014), then I'll make one combined donation to GCFD in the name of LTH Forum.

This has become one of my favorite personal holiday traditions. I feel so honored to be the liaison between my generous LTH friends and this fantastic nonprofit. Thank you all for your kindness, and I can't wait to break bread with you all in a few days!

(Feel free to text or call with any questions you may have. You can donate at any time between now and Dec. 2 to join in the group donation. I will submit a list of donors and amounts to Ronnie when I make the donation.)

Thanks, Katje. We all really appreciate you stewarding this on our behalf. I hope that our group will continue to be as generous this year as we have in years past -- or better yet, exceed what we've done in the past.

As for the gift exchange, Bill can certainly take the lead on that and if anyone would like to join him, that's fine too.

Great reminder about the food drive!

I just want to give everyone a heads-up that I sadly did not have the time to plan, construct and decorate a gingerbread creation this year. (which takes 3 full days of work)
We will of course be bringing some nice goodies to swap, but likely not homemade...

Certainly no expert here (on wine or this cuisine) but I agree about bubbly. Hard to go wrong there. Also thinking riesling or something similar might be a good way to go on the still side. Haven't even thought about red (and probably won't) but maybe someone else has . . .
