    Hi all,

At last Sunday's picnic, a lot of people expressed their enthusiasm for getting our holiday party back on track this year, so I think definitely think we should do so. The last few were on Thursday evenings, which worked well for a number of reasons. This year, I think we should follow the same template. To that end, Thursday December 1 -- one week after Thanksgiving -- would be a nice time for us to gather and kick off the season together.

Some of us have already thrown a few ideas around and are currently working on putting something together that, I think, will be a lot of fun and a great fit for our group. Once we get the details locked (pricing, capacity, menu, etc.), I'll come back and share them here. If you're interested in joining, please save the date on your calendar.

While we finalize the details, you might want to consider what amazing treasure you'll bring to the gift exchange and how you'll top your generosity at our last holiday party food drive.

    Thanks!

    Hi all,

Still pushing this forward and hoping to have some additional details locked down and posted soon.

In the meantime, while planning, our prospective host offered to provide karaoke for us. My gut reaction was to politely decline but I figured I'd at least float it here and see what people thought.

    So . . . thoughts on karaoke? 8)

If I cannot hear myself think when the karaoke is going, then please no.

    My two cents ...

As a former semi-professional vocalist, if karaoke is there. I’d probably participate. But I certainly don’t need it, and wouldn’t miss it if it wasn’t available.

Seems like the biggest reason for this gathering is so that our group can socialize and celebrate the season. Trying to listen to or talk over someone singing does not, to me, accomplish that purpose.

Wait. Is my belting out karaoke Christmas carols not celebrating the season?!

In all seriousness, it was a nice offer but didn't seem like a good fit for us. Still, I didn't want to nix it without first running it up the flagpole here. I'll let them know there's no need/desire for karaoke at the event.

    Thanks,

I have a six-page package of songs I've sung at Karaoke.
I have performed on the floor of the Great American Beer Festival (Obviously, I am not attending this year.). But I do not really need to perform at this. Thank you for the offer nonetheless. :)

Lovely offer, but it just doesn't sound like this group -- especially since it seems unlikely we'd all be celebrating the same holiday. :)

I don't think we'd be limited to one holiday or just holiday music but let's face it, it would have been quite a surprise to many of us if this group had responded favorably to the karaoke offer . . . in any configuration. I just didn't want to decline it without making sure.

    Gift Exchange
The Gift Exchange has been a part of our yearly celebrations since we held our first such event at Klas. If you want, please bring a food-related raffle item. For the raffle/gift exchange, all gifts go into a pool and names are drawn. If you do bring a gift, you get a ticket and are guaranteed one gift in exchange. We’ve set the price for each gift at around $15. Please don’t wrap the gift — we like to see what people are winning before they win it — but please do put your name (real name or screen name or both) on the gift so that lucky recipients know who to thank.

    Give Back
Mamagotcha and Chouxfly have graciously agreed to collect items for the Greater Chicago Food Depository. She’ll post a list here of the items that are most needed this time of year. Just bring them to the party and we’ll make sure they get to people who need them.

Any questions? If so, please feel free to post them here.

    Thanks,

    Hi all,

I'm glad to see the initial interest. Based on what I've read so far (here and PM's), I do think this will sell out quickly. I'll organize a payment instruction PM and send it out asap to all who've indicated they plan to attend. That'll most likely happen sometime on Tuesday.

    Thanks!
