Ravinia is not the name of a town. As for the rest, there must be some merit or there wouldn't have been an agreement between the two parties in the first place. Ravinia Festival is hardly a bully. They're a not-for-profit organization that does a tremendous amount to support artists and their work.

And don't forget that part of maintaining a trademark is vigorously protecting it. If that's not done, the trademark is at risk (e.g. landmark Xerox case). So, Ravinia Festival probably had little choice here but to defend. But my guess is that the brewing company's hosting live music in their space is the straw that broke the camel's back. That practice could easily lead to customer confusion. In the eyes of the law, that seems to matter.

It's not like the brewery was hosting a music festival or any big acts in competition with the Ravinia Festival, the article said they would have like one person with a guitar in the brewery. And haven't had one in 2 years?

Following a breakdown in settlement talks, the Ravinia Festival Association filed an amended complaint Wednesday against the Ravinia Brewing Company alleging trademark infringement over the use of the "Ravinia" name.

The updated complaint in the federal lawsuit between the music festival and the microbrewery accuses the founders of the brewing company of starting their business with "the express purposes of taking advantage of the name recognition and good will of Ravinia [Festival Association]."

After an early January 2024 saw Elder Brewing close, leaving Joliet with Zero breweries, now the area takes another hit as Shorewood's Mad Hatchet is trying to sell, leaving the brewing business.

Was there about 2 weeks ago, and it had the "dead man walking" vibe. Use to love that place. There had been like 16 taps, and they were pretty creative with their beers.

They had maybe 8 going, possibly 10 taps but a couple of those were Fools ciders and such.

And not a single IPA. How many micro breweries that are trying to survive don't have at least 1 IPA? Will be sad to see it go. It was set back off 59 just enough to make it hidden, unfortunately.

Will County Brewing just down the road is still thriving (one of Shorewoods few remaining) and just opened up a new location in Channahon.

Need to get to Garage Band Brewing to keep that place here in Plainfield, with WerkForce and Khaos. Did try Fox Republic in Yorkville last week, situated right across parking lot from Crusade Burger Bar. Will be back to both soon.

Use to be so much beer, so little time....kinda feels the opposite lately with the spate of closings and few openings....at least this far SouthWest.....

We were at Nik and Ivy in Lockport over the weekend and was very impressed. Great vibe, there is a restaurant next door that deliver food. Live music occasionally and really good beer. Not too far from Joliet.

Just a terse note that I have gone to sixty-seven Illinois breweries during this year's "#DrinkIllinois" summer passport scheme.
At least, that is the number I believe that count.
I have dropped in at other brewery locations, including ones which are members of ICBG, and they claimed they were not participating.
This included Hopewell Brwg. which where I obtained my 2023 Passport last year!
I have already sent in the Passport pages for getting twenty-five and fifty passport "visas" so far. I need to get to seventy-five visas before 16 August.
Have I mentioned I do not motor to any of these breweries?

I agree. I have an affection for old firehouses.

I'm not a beer drinker, but my brother is dedicated to finding the best beers -- and when he comes out my way, into the suburbs, he likes to meet at Macushla in Glenview. It shares a parking lot with Hackney's on Lake in Glenview--and if you want food, you can order from Hackney's and just carry it over to Macushla. The beer menu always looks intriguing. They do have non-beer drinks, should there be someone in your party who is not a fan of hops. But nice place, nice people. And kind of sad story. The guy who started it -- someone who lefts his job to pursue his dream of creating really good beer -- died a year after it opened. Now his wife runs it. But if my brother likes it, I imagine you'll find something you will enjoy drinking.

Ravinia v Ravinia has reached a resolution. 
Nearly one year after a trademark fight ended up in Chicago federal court, Ravinia Festival and Ravina Brewing announced a settlement Friday, with the craft brewer agreeing to rebrand.


While the terms of the settlement were not disclosed, Ravinia Brewing plans to abandon its hometown moniker while Ravinia Festival will both drop its trademark infringement lawsuit and help the brewery during the name change.
“After considerable discussions, we’ve reached a mutual agreement that puts our disputes behind us and enables us to both move forward,” Ravinia Festival and Ravinia Brewing said in a joint statement. “The agreement affirms Ravinia’s trademarks and provides that Ravinia Brewing Company will announce a name change and a new brand, with Ravinia providing assistance during the transition.”
No specific timetable for the Ravinia Brewing name change was disclosed, but the rebranding is expected to take place over a period of months.
“We are still finalizing an updated name and brand as we want to make sure that we stay authentic to our amazing community and patrons,” Kris Walker, 48, co-founder of Ravinia Brewing, said in an email Saturday.

Arlington Heights’ first brewery will be only blocks from where owner Eric Lamkins has been crafting his own suds for years.

The home-brewer — also a beekeeper and marketing/graphic design chief — will make small batches of beer at Spent Grain Brewing, which is on tap to open later this year at 17 N. Vail Ave.
