I consume lots of beers (and ales) all year long.
But I never have to have one.
LTHF'ers might recall at the Holiday Party I did not have any licensed beverages. It was not because of any desire for moderation, but because I was heading to The Beer Temple once it ended, and I definitely did not need to be gouged (@ extra cost) for macro lagers at Kie Gol Lanee.
I can recall when January was not merely “dry” - but Stout Month January @ Quenchers. Quenchers would have around sixteen stouts from across the world and put them on draft, with half going on on the 1st, and the other half going on on the 15th.
If you drank all of them, you got a free T-Shirt.
I submit “dry January” is more financially shattering to restaurants than losing two parking spaces across the road from it to a protected bicycle lane. [N.B.: The maximum time allowed in the conceivable City of Chicago parking space is two hours. Is it possible to get in, order, dine, pay, exit; and return to the vehicle in less than two hours?
]
My January has been slow, not because of any moderation trend, but because the weather has been too damn cold.
I don't need to go out and drink with all the beverages in the cellar here.
At the Logan Square Draught Beer Preservation Society, in the stages of planning this year's March Forth For Froth (Tuesday, March 4th); one of the routes in contention would bring us to the corner of Western & Fullerton Aves., where a moment of silence would be honored.
I'll get out there again. As soon as temperatures start reaching average highs.
