Wednesday is still National Beer Day.
This is the day that elicits quips of "Did we celebrate this back in December?"

    It is a little tricky.

The would-be 21st Amendment which would repeal the 18th Amendment; i.e.: Prohibition, was still being ratified by conventions in U.S. States.
But while Prohibition was the law, what enforced the law was the Volstead Act. It defined an intoxicating beverage as higher than 0.5% alcohol by weight.
A bill, the Cullen-Harrison Act, was zipped through the U.S. Congress in March 1933, immediately after Franklin D. Roosevelt was inaugurated as President. It modified the Volstead Act by raising the limit of a non-intoxicating beverage to 3.2% alcohol by weight. A beverage containing only 3.2% alcohol was considered too low to produce intoxication.
The bill was signed by Franklin D. Roosevelt on 22 March 1933, with his bon mot, "I think this would be a good time for a beer." The 7th of April was the day this act took effect.
A corollary for this act being passed was that it would allow more breweries to operate. Operating breweries meant money-earning jobs for people affected by the Great Depression.
On 7 April 1933, 1½ million barrels of beer were consumed in the U.S.A.

The tricky aspect is this. Even in states which had a law allowing 3.2% beer to be sold, there was no procedure as far as licensing venues where this could be offered.
So packaged 3.2% beer appeared in pharmacies, general stores, ice cream parlors, barber shops, stationary stores, and shops where you would not expect a beverage to be available. It was everywhere. :P
Have a beer on National Beer Day. If you want to be true to its intent, have a beer with an ABW content of 3.2% or less. There are good examples of beers of this (limited) alcoholic content available from craft beer brewers. :)
