28 percent ABV Beer by Samuel Adams which costs a suggested ridiculous high retail price of $240 for a single 25.4-ounce bottle.
Every two years, Boston-based brewery Samuel Adams releases a new version of its Utopias limited-edition beer. Both the retail price and the alcohol content of this high-gravity beer could make your eyes water — but the latter is the reason why it won't be on a single shelf in 15 different U.S. states.

According to CNN, this year's Utopias has an ABV of 28 percent, which means that it's legally prohibited from being sold in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Utah, Vermont, and West Virginia. Those states each have a limit on the ABV of any beer that can be sold, and it's safe to say that Utopias blows right past it.

Samuel Adams says that supplies of this year's Utopias are "extremely limited" — CNN estimates that only about 13,000 bottles were produced — and each oversized 25.4-ounce bottle has a suggested retail price of $240. (Samuel Adams has emphasized that this is a beer meant to be "sipped and savored.")

Have you noticed how expensive a 16.9-ounce bottle of Goose Island's Bourbon County Stout Proprietor's is? {Especially the vintages going back to 2012.}
Or is Goose Island exempt from criticism because it is “local” (although the profits go to a multi-national corporation very far from Chicago)? :!:

I think there is so many versions of Bourbon County Stout ranging from $10 - $50 / bottle I believe.. And yes also overpriced... but $240 for a single 25.4-ounce bottle for a 2021 vintage seems over the top.

    It is OK. :)
I may be revealing a personal preference since I was able to have a glass of one year's Utopia at a Samuel Adams event in Denver during G A B F. :!:

As long as you enjoyed it and can afford such a luxury good than its great. Its like those people who go to Next Restaurant tasting menu at $500/per person.. If you can afford it and enjoy such splurges than go for it.

Curious how they produce a beer that high in alcohol? Exceptionally alcohol-tolerant yeast? Or is it fortified with distilled spirits, as are port and sherry?

    Ninja Yeast

THE BREWERS UTILIZED SEVERAL YEAST STRAINS DURING FERMENTATION, INCLUDING ONE TYPICALLY RESERVED FOR CHAMPAGNE, AND A “NINJA YEAST,” CREATED FOR ITS ABILITY TO SURVIVE AND CONTINUE FERMENTING IN AN ENVIRONMENT THAT HAS SUCH A HIGH ALCOHOL LEVEL.
