If anybody happens to make it to Salamera this weekend, could you warn them that the Evanston Lunch Group is planning to descend on them like hungry cicadas on Tuesday after next?
I mailed a letter to that effect, since I haven't been able to get an answer on the phone - but just in case someone stops by....

Stopped by on the off chance that it would be open, shut tight like a drum with this large professional sign on the door...

Actually, so far as I know, Norka's standout food wasn't really Peruvian, right? (truthfully, with the exception of one empanada, I never got past the sandwich menu, so I could be way off) I mean, certainly there was a Peruvian flair to it all, and certainly there was ceviche on the menu, but the Norky's porky is unique as far as I know...and jibaritos are in sadly short supply.

Norka told me that the pork belly sandwich was based on a Peruvian breakfast item (now that's a breakfast I could enjoy). Obviously, she added her own embellishments.

The Salamery is basically lomo saltado on a roll, so pretty Peruvian. As are the drinks, the occasional stews, etc. The jibarito obviously isn't, which makes it all the more impressive that it's pretty much the best around.

Has it really been 10 years? Where is Norka??? Of all the places that have come and gone, this one still hurts as much or more than others.

We still miss it, too, along with Great Lake.
