My dad used to take us to the Pickle Barrel -- we loved it because you could throw your peanut shells on the ground, but I remember they also had very good burgers there. I also recall there was one in the former Park Forest Plaza when we moved (farther) south, but it wasn't as good as the one in Old Town.
I also have fond memories of Bowl and Roll. They had a variety of soups and fresh breads. Friends of ours used to take us there frequently, and we would try all the different soups and try to decide which was the best. I still think a good bowl of soup with some fresh bread is a terrific meal.
