There hundreds of motorcyclists from all over the region.

When the Highland House changed owners, the new owner was not informed of the regular Sunday happening. Apparently it was an aspect the old owner thought might bugger up the transaction.

Seen at 3159 N. California Ave, corner of California/Belmont/Elston in the storefront adjacent to Pork Shoppe: Banners proclaiming a forthcoming second location of Jai-Yen Sushi and Noodle of East Lakeview, dubbed "Jai-Yen II." I think they'd do well to drop the "II" but that's just me.

Between this, Pork Shoppe, La Traspasada, and Dragon Lady located literally at the intersection and Hot Doug's, Urban Belly, and Kuma's all within two blocks, this unassuming and frankly bizarre intersection has emerged as a surprise dining epicenter.

Gangs? Really? People riding motorcycles that happen to do so together are suddenly a "gang"? Having been a motorcyclist for going on 40 years now, and occasionally having ridden with others, I'm surprised to learn that I've unwittingly been part of a "gang".

Unless you're riding said bikes through the dime stores to scare the townsfolk, the term "gang" is not perjorative, merely descriptive. Viz,e.g.,and so on.

Watch out for the north shore chapter of the "Hell's Orthodontists" - when those no-good street-toughs get together, they cause all kinds of trouble and make quite a racket on their Harleys...until noon when Dr. Weinstein has to leave to take his kid to soccer, and Dr. Patel leaves to have lunch with his in-laws, and Dr. Fredrickson has once-a-month Saturday hours at his practice, and Dr. Yoon's hog is at the Harley dealership having its scheduled service so he shows up in his Acura...then they're not quite so scary.

According to my source at the Bannockburn Dominicks, Mariano's deal for the Beesons land fell through, and they are now looking further north at the old shepard chevy dealership at 176 and 43.....also right next to a dominicks. she said that the rumor is that they are having issues financing their expansion into Chicago so she does not expect anything to open anytime soon.

There's a good spot for something like a Mariano's/more restaurants on Skokie Blvd just north of Dundee that was about to be developed when the recession hit.

The Highland House location is a pretty visable spot for any restaurant. I hope something better than a McDonald's goes there though. How about a Chick-Fil-A?

Has there been some recent activity? I was excited to see Soluri & Sons' "coming soon" sign and I wish them well but nothing has happened for a long time. If you compare this photo taken last October with the one from the end of March over in the Zebra's thread, you'll see the store appears unchanged.

Uh-oh, what does that mean for Zebda?

Different strokes, I prefer, especially for a fast snack while shopping, the piled high tacos at Guanajuato. La Traspasada if fine, but nothing there trips my trigger like a lengua or chorizo taco from Guanajuato.

Speaking of Mexican groceries Guanajuato is my go-to, both Ashland and California, but I came across one terrific Mexican grocery on my last trip to newly minted GNR Los Gallos #2. Super Mercados El Guero‎ has a nice selection of dry goods, well stocked and very fresh looking meat counter and veg plus a wide variety of chilies, both fresh and dried.

Another potential Mariano's- I was driving west on Rt. 22 today and at Quentin Rd, in Lake Zurich, the lot west of the nursery/landscaping place on the NW corner had a sign saying something about it being a proposed site for Mariano's and another business, whose logo I didn't recognize as I drove by.

Spotted on Madison in Forest Park next to the rapidly rebuilding Skrine Chops was a sign that said "Tapas 7232" with two additional signs saying "Spanish" and "Cuban" I think.

Also on Madison, Fiorenza Ristorante, after not seeing much action over the winter, is quickly coming together. No idea when they'll open but this is the fourth Italian restaurant on the block between Circle and Des Plaines.

According to today’s Chicago Tribune, Le Titi de Paris will be closing in June.

The story reports that the owners, Michael and Susan Maddox, want to spend more time with their family and have gotten a good offer for the property. The building will be razed to support a retail center.

That's sad. Like Arlington Heights needs another strip mall.

French haute cuisine is really becoming endangered in America. Chicago already has very few French restaurants of any kind and nothing at all approaching Le Francais in its heyday, and I don't guess anyone will be opening a high end French place like that anytime soon.

Le Titi lovers can look to Michael in Winnetka as the nearest thing to it, but they aren't open for lunch.

I look forward to Dominique Tougne's new bistro, but it sounds as if he's returning to his Alsatian roots. I do hope he puts a roast chicken on the menu; Bistro 110's was the best in town.

I just came to pose about Le Titi, and I see it has already appeared. This is sad on so many levels. Having a great French restaurant five minutes from my home has been a delight for a couple of decades now. Plus owners Susan and Michael Maddox are such nice people, I hate to see this happen to them.

    This makes me very sad.
