I am a high school Spanish teacher in the northwest suburbs. Would this restaurant work for a "working field trip" for a group of well-behaved high school juniors & seniors? How many students could be accommodated, more or less? Thanks for any insight you can give me. The food sounds wonderful. I wil stop in personally and check it out later this week. - YUM!!!

Give them a call and ask, but personally I believe that Isaac & Moishe's deli in Highwood would provide a more authentic experience, if your goal is to expose the students to Mexican culture and foods. It's the same owners, but the deli is geared more towards the Hispanic community rather than the white North Shore surburban community, which is the focus of the restaurants.

The day after Christmas, I took a lady friend for breakfast at Isaac & Moishe's Restaurant on First St. in Highland Park. (Note: They've moved their opeining time from 7 am to 9 am Mon through Fri. and 8 am on Sundays. They open on Saturdays one hour after sundown.)
One of the best kept secrets in Highland Park is that they offer a "build your own" omelet for only $4.95. For this price, you get your choice of three ingredients plus rice and beans or hash brown potatoes or fruit. I can't think of any restaurant anywhere that offers such a great deal. And it's available all day long. Note that the build your own omelet is only availabe at their First St. location.
Both restaruants will be opened New Year's day from 8 am until closing.
    Regards,
    Grandpa Bob

Have you ever had pasta in a Mexican restaurant? Well, I have. Recently I stopped by Isaac & Moishe's deli and grocery for a few items. They've set up a cafe in the store with an open kitchen.

Isaac suggested that I stay for a bite of dinner. He made me his version of penne with vodka sauce and I want to tell you - IT WAS DELICIOUS! Whenever I see a pasta with vodka sauce on a menu, I usually order it. What made Isaac's version a bt different was that he added some lox. (No doubt a tribute to his family following Jewish traditions.) Besides the basic vodka sauce, he added a bit of Italian red peppers and some basil. A truly great dish. While I was enjoying my dinner, they put up four more orders to go.

I also love their tamales. You can only get them at the deli. I really enjoy rajas con queso (jalapenos, tomatos and onions with cheese). They also make chicken tamales with either red or green sauce. An old pal came from CA with his girlfriend and I suggested she try their tamales. The girlfriend empolys a Mexican cleaning lady who occasionally brings her tamales. She thinks Isaac's are considerably better.

    Dear Grandpa Bob,

I think we are related. My great-grandparents had a Polish restaurant in Chicago.
