It had been over four years since my last breaded steak sandwich, the most appalling example I can remember. It took that long to recover from such a traumatic experience. D'anardo's was a good place to get back on the horse.

I ate it immediately at the pizzeria and enjoyed the contrast of crispy edges and sauce-sogged parts. The simple red gravy and not-overcooked peppers play important supporting roles. Days later I found myself wondering if D'anardo's other sandwiches—meatball, sausage, eggplant, pepper & egg—might be as good.

Tried any more? I haven't gotten around to it yet.
