We ordered two pizzas. One regular thin and one with extra sauce just to compare. When I always went to Marie's I was used to a paper thin crust with a very oily, flavorful cheese that many people would use napkins to dab the oil off (I love it like that - when it runs down your hand). To prove it my Mom was with me this time and she always would use napkins for the oil on the cheese. Didn't happen this time. For one it did not need extra sauce, so that was good as far as the regular pizza went. But both times the crust was too thick and the pizza was kind of bland all over including the cheese. I have to talk to Marie's about this. This is happening all the time now and it's unacceptable. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone if this is how it's going to be.

I'm still in a good mood from a wonderful trip to Marie's last night. It had been entirely too long since our last visit and I doubt we'll let that happen again. A large half sausage/half pepperoni thin crust, well done, was spot on. The crust was light and crisp and the cheese was in perfect balance with the tangy sauce. As luck would have it, we were there for jazz and martini Thursdays. So we got to enjoy a jazz trio playing classics (mostly Miles Davis) and $5 martinis. What a gem!

I have "punished" Marie's by avoiding them entirely in 2016. As I drove past Marie's yesterday on Lawrence I was thinking about stopping in to talk to the owner to see if anything truly changed. Eventually I will return, maybe during the holidays to see if things are back to what they were.

I know what you mean. Something seemed to change at Marie's for a while. I'm happy to report that my last few pizzas were back to being as good as ever.

You have no idea how happy that makes me to hear that they did have a change that was noticeable and have rebounded. I will return and have high expectations.

Weekday lunch special made my stomach feel special.

$6.95 for a one topping personal pizza and choice of soup or salad. Perfectly cooked, piping hot straight from the oven with browned, bubbling cheese.

I made it back to Marie's the other night and I am so happy to report the pizza was as good as ever. Like they magically fixed whatever was wrong. The oily cheese was back, the crust was nice and thin, sausage tasted great. I am so relieved! Since I hadn't been there all year, I feel like I need to go back again this month! :)

A sausage and giardinieria pizza from Marie's tonight was on point. Even though the giardinieria was more mild than hot, the pizza was perfectly cooked and the sausage was just what I needed.
A visit on Thursdays gets you the bonus of a jazz trio called Strings and Vibes. Three older gents who do a great job, especially the guy on the upright bass.
    Friendly service too.
    It was a great visit.

We were also there tonight. Agreed, pizza was spot on. Jonathan & I shared a thin with onions & black olives on the whole pie, half sausage, half spinach. Our daughter had a kid’s pepperoni. The band fascinated our 6 year old. Service was friendly and efficient. Great visit for us too!

Stopped in at Marie's last night for dinner with my family. It had been about a year since we last visited. I forgot that I bought a Groupon for two large Marie's Specials, and either two pitchers of beer or two wine flights. We added on a large antipasto salad and the warm chocolate cake with ice cream for dessert for my kids.

Everything was terrific, I requested 'well done' on the pizzas and we crushed both with ease. The Special has sausage, green peppers, mushrooms and onions. The place was pretty empty on a Tuesday, but our waiter was really great and accommodating with our young kids. Awesome Tuesday night at Marie's.

FYI the Groupon was roughly $30 for the two large pizzas and beer/wine options, and was a great deal.

The Bride and I re-instituted our tradition of Marie's for V-Day. 5:30, place was packed with dads and daughters all dressed up for local dad/daughter school dances, lively atmosphere does not cover the cheerful bedlam of which gaggles of preteens are capable.

Good wine for minimal corkage from attached liquor store, music started, crowd changed, noisy, lively, great music, our two friends, who had never been, smiling like electrocuted Cheshire cats. And of course, the star of the evening, aside from my wife, heart shaped pizzas.

Yeah I drive by there often and recently it's always been completely dark inside. After so many wonderful meals, celebrations, and gatherings there it truly pains me to think of this being an unceremonious end to a cherished one-of-a-kind place. Fingers crossed that there's a plan to reopen or pass ownership/management to someone who can breathe new life into the place while maintaining all that made it great.
