We enjoyed a meet up with friends for dinner at Bronzeville Winery last night. It had been a long time since we’d been to Bronzeville - maybe 6 or 7 years. Lots of noticeable changes. There is a palpable vibrancy to the neighborhood and Bronzeville Winery seems to be a hub. The hosts gave us a very friendly, warm welcome.
Cod fritters and Moroccan carrots were the standout appetizers for our group. The praline biscuits were less successful and remained unfinished. 3 of the 6 of of us had the burgers and were very happy with their choice. Daughter got the brick oven roasted Mac & cheese and gave it a thumbs up. My rosemary potato flatbread pizzette was crispy and flavorful and yielded leftovers for another meal down the road. It was a very generous portion and could be shared as an entree along with a salad.
We really liked the music and vibe during our meal. There was a DJ but the volume was not overpowering and we conversed easily. The place was packed and everyone seemed to be happily enjoying themselves. Service was really great - our server brought us a complimentary round of bubbly (after we had placed our orders.)
One caveat, I thought the prices were just a bit too high, even given the current inflation/market. A few of the wine prices were almost laughable. So much so that I opted for a beer, which worked just fine with my flatbread.
Great to wander off our well-traveled usual restaurant route…
