The one in Forest Park closed recently and a friend reported the one near Joliet is closed as well.

    Wondering what’s up?

I know they closed some a few years ago because of the trans fat issue...

Hard to say. Loss of lease? Could be one of lots of reasons. They’re celebrating their 50th anniversary and recently had an AYCE deal.

Hi- I just went on their website, and the closest restaurant for me is on Fullerton, which is not convenient for me. They used to have one on I believe Touhy which I went to once, but the last time I drove by there a few weeks ago, I noticed it was closed. I know they also closed the one in Chesterton Indiana which I have been to a few times. The last time I went to LJS was a few years ago, and they did have a few healthy choices, which I noticed nobody was ordering but me.

I was in Lincoln Park, MI (Detroit suburb) last week and the Long John Silvers there recently closed as well. So it could be a thing. Maybe they are closing the tired, old locations (which this one was).

I remember going to the original LJS location a lot in the 70's and 80's (grew up in Lexington, Ky). Their food was great back then, but when I moved up here and tried it again a few times in the late 90's it was pretty bad. Never went back after that.

The one in Hanover Park closed a couple of months ago. It seems like they've been going down hill since Yum Brands sold them off.

I think that since the demise of Jerrico , Inc. in 1999, the chain has gone from one investment group to another with little thought to upgrading the brand. Yum! did little for the brand other than to add the restaurant to some multi-brand locations which I think was a good idea for LJS as the menu is limited to fish and seafood.

I was dragged to a location in Albuquerque and one in Texas last year. It was one of my DW's guilty pleasures when she was young. Even she admitted that the food was very mediocre and that we would not be going back.
