I recently ate lunch at Sun Wah with a friend, and was shocked at how poorly guests are received. I made a reservation for lunch by phone and that is where the issues started....Sun Wah has adopted the policy of requiring face masks, regardless of current CDC guidelines....that is fine, had I known. My friend and I are both vaccinated, and had one mask between us....the greeter (one of the servers) did not want to let us sit down without donning one....fine, but then provide masks for those of us who are not informed of your policy. No neighboring stores had any available....we finally went in one at a time and had the server bring the mask back to the other.
The entry looks like a dump...as you enter, the first things to see are several tables piled high with empty boxes, likely for take-out, but a bad first impression, as well as not having a greeter anywhere near the door (nor for several minutes), we thought it may have closed since we reserved. The restaurant itself also looked tired and dirty.
Once seated, it took 15 minutes to get a server for us to confirm we had ordered the duck dinner and take our drink order. The meal was as wonderful as I remembered, nicely carved tableside, with soup and fried rice soon following. Priced at $53 (no-where to be found on the menu or on-line) we felt it was lovely and were glad we did not blow them off and eat a nice Vietnamese meal on Argyle instead.
First impressions make a big difference and Sun Wah does not seem to care. Combined with past health department issues, it makes it less likely we will go back soon.
