    1) Something is cooking at the former Dickens Street Public House and Four Farthings Tavern & Grill in Lincoln Park via building permit. The owner of permit is DeNucci's which I can trace back to Ballyhoo Hospitality. They run Gemini (across the street), Andros Taverna, Coda di Volpe, etc. I'm just going to guess it'll be an Italian concept, but we'll see.

    2) It appears that Egg Harbor Cafe may be opening up their 2nd city location, this time in River North. The other location is in Streeterville and all the other locations are in the suburbs. This is via building permit from the other day.

    Coming soon?

    3) Hello Jasmine's Lincoln Square store is opening on June 15 according to the Google profile for it. This is a Taiwanese eatery that also has bubble tea and a few other locations in the city (Chinatown and Lincoln Park)

Maillard Tavern, the burger joint that Piccolo Sogno co-owners Tony Priolo and Ciro Longobardo opened in 2017, will be closing at the end of the month, Priolo says. The restaurant is another casualty of the two-years-and-counting pandemic; its last day of service will be next Saturday, May 28.

There's been a sign up for Chicago Sushi for quite awhile now; months, maybe even a year or more. I've never investigated to see if they're actually open. Maybe he bought the place and delayed opening during the pandemic.

Or, maybe somebody opened the joint trying to cash in on the success of Chicago Ramen, and now he's buying them out?

    I guess we'll know on 5/23.

    1) An ice cream shop named CRMD is opening in Lakeview East on Broadway in the home of the former Johnson's Ice Cream. Windows are papered with this.

This is a shop based in Columbus, OH and owned by a husband/wife who focus more on Asian directed things like Matcha ice cream or Vietnamese coffee ice cream. But also more traditional flavors. They'll have bubble waffles there but also various ice cream flavors where you can also put cereal on or mixed in them.

    Coming soon

    2) Kyo Matcha is open in Chinatown. This is a mainly DC area centric dessert shop focusing on Matcha via ice cream, crepe cakes, matcha tofu, drinks, etc. They also have some cheesecake, mochi ice cream, etc. They're planning to open in Boston soon as well.

    Now open
    Kyo Matcha
2167 S China Pl (Chinatown Square)
    Open Sunday - Thursday 11:30am - 9:30pm, Friday - Saturday 11:30am - 10:30 pm

    3) La Borra Cafe no longer has signage/paper up for their Lakeview East location at 2941 N Broadway. Generic for lease signs from one of the big companies is back up. I've been wondering about this - there's another one still with signage at Lincoln/Racine/Diversey that seems to be going nowhere.

It does look like their Gold Coast location (10 E Delaware) did open sometime in the fall. Hopefully the Lakeview ones can actually open up..

Business license was issued yesterday and their website has this location up now. They should be opening soon.

They may also be opening a 3rd location in South Loop a little south of Roosevelt on Michigan. There was a permit issued with the owner address of the Bridgeport location. Not on their website yet though and need to confirm.

Block Club Chicago reports Golden Nugget Pancake House Closes In Old Irving Park After 52 Years
Golden Nugget, 4229 W. Irving Park Road, was once one of the chain’s 24-hour spots, long popular with the breakfast and late-night crowds, neighbors said. It first opened in 1970.

But the hours changed to 6 a.m.-10 p.m. about five years ago, and business hasn’t returned to pre-pandemic levels, owner Cathy Guzman said. She also said the restaurant only employed about five people, and she had trouble finding new workers.

Guzman closed the location Sunday and is looking to lease the space to someone else, she said.

    Remaining locations:
Golden Nugget Pancake House opened in 1966 and has four remaining locations at 2406 W. Diversey Ave., 3959 W. Diversey Ave., 3001 N. Central Ave. and 1765 W. Lawrence Ave.

Pub Royale will be closing its doors for good on Saturday, June 25th.
As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. Pub Royale will be closing its doors for good on Saturday, June 25th.

This announcement is extremely bittersweet for us. While we sad to say goodbye, we’re also immensely proud of what we’ve accomplished over the past seven years.

The next two weeks will filled with classic pub items, the return of some old favorites, and probably more Dressed Hamm’s than we can count. So swing by, get your Royale with Cheese Fix and show our AMAZING staff some serious lovin’.

Thank you to all the guests and staff who have been a part of our journey. We couldn’t have done it without you.

    Love always + forever,
    Pub
