I don't go to Fresh Farms that often, because Jewel is way closer to me. The times I do go I never spend $25. I usually just go there because I am at the Walmart next door. I never buy anything in the deli there, and I don't eat much red meat, and I buy most of my veggies at the farmers market. Most of the stuff I buy at Jewel is more expensive at Fresh Farms. I save at least $250 a year at Jewel using my J4U, and I can do it all online. I am not a fan of apps.

The geographic factor is what it is based on the individual. I'm not a fan of apps either, but the simplicity absolutely crushes the week by week, product by product, J4U stuff I see on here. You cite a savings but that includes them steering you to certain products. FF is pure cash back. The deli sections at Fresh Farms are much more professional and well-staffed than my local Jewel. The farmer's market only covers half the year. The winter market isn't comprehensive enough to compare. Plus there's the whole category of products like citrus fruit that's not locally grown. If they were equidistant, alcohol, soda and a few odds and ends would be Jewel's only purpose for me.

I bought ten pounds of carrots, and ten pounds of turnips that will keep for four months, and also ten pounds of potatoes and ten pounds of sweet potatoes. I also bought some spinach and brussel sprouts at the last market, and I buy a bunch of red peppers when they are cheap and freeze them. I have been buying oranges and bananas lately, although I still have some apples from the farmer's market. I rarely buy anything at Jewel or Whole Foods from the deli either. I won't spend the money, and I love to cook. I only take advantage of the stuff at Jewel under the J4U program if I would normally buy it. I often pass on the free stuff there. When I go home to my sisters in Michigan for Christmas, she will give me a big bag of some of her apples too.

The Golf Rd location now carries River Valley Ranch crimini mushrooms. They weren't at the Touhy location however, which currently has lower prices on meat than Golf.

I made Fried Eggs Rancheros for dinner tonight. I usually use plum tomatoes for my roasted tomato ranchero sauce but they looked pretty sad at Fresh Farms today. Noticed a little box labeled “Heirloom Tomatoes From Mexico.” They were borderline over-ripe but as I was using them tonight I went for it. They made for a very flavorful sauce and I wouldn’t hesitate to get them again as long as I was planning to use them quickly.

I am amazed that Fresh Farms Wheeling and Golf ( I almost never shop Niles ) do not sell bulk shallots. As best I can tell, they are in mesh bags underneath the produce when they are available.

The Niles location also does not sell bulk shallots, but rather than mesh bags they are shrink-wrapped on a styrafoam tray.

FF Wheeling sells them shrink-wrapped in mesh baskets. Not my favorite way to buy them but I've never had a bad one in any pack.

Since I just don't go to Niles to shop, I don't care about Jerry's. I attempt ( not always successful ) to shop in just one store each day. If I need shallots, which is often, I go to Sunset rather than Fresh Farms. I am still amazed that Fresh Farms, which does produce better than most, does not have bulk shallots.

Interesting that Niles carries them and neither Golf or Wheeling does.

I will keep that in mind when shopping

Ugh, Nueskes bacon has disappeared from the shelves here again. Am hoping this is a very temporary situation. It’s kind of a staple in our house.

Tonight’s spinach salad with goat cheese/walnut pita croutons, cherry tomatoes, and a very mustard-y balsamic vinaigrette will also contain Burgers’ Smokehouse Applewood Smoked Bacon crumbles. Have never tried this brand. Fingers crossed…

Can only guess on this but there was plenty of Nueske's bacon (plenty of stock of several different SKU's) at FF Wheeling on Friday. Hopefully, it'll reappear in Niles soon.

Hi, I shop at fresh Farms on Touhy regularly and they do have shallots. If you need to buy just one or two, then yes, you're out of luck because they always have them on a Styrofoam base wrapped in plastic usually for about $3.99 for about 20 of them.

As an aside-I buy shallots at Marketplace on Oakton- loose and always available.

Unlike last month, I got the push notification twice today. Knowing how fickle the app is I thought there might even be a second coupon, but it was not to be.

If you received an email from FF today to get $5 off in the app for doing a survey, the link to the survey is hiding to the right of the FF logo after you click on the $5 Coupon button.

Sometimes deleting the app and reinstalling it encourages better communication.

That said, I find their app very flaky, too.

I think the $5 off for every $400 spent is worth whipping it out for as a consistent customer. The coupon/deal pages in the app are totally worthless though.

The App also says I have a $5 coupon coming for $400 purchase I have not received yet.
I will be going to Fresh Farms on Sunday.
